Des Moines Community Playhouse to Stage THE LITTLE RED HEN, 10/11
The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents "The Little Red Hen," Friday, Oct. 11. This story is the first in the 2013-14 season of Friday Funday, a creative participatory story theatre program for children ages 4-6. Performances are at The Playhouse, Friday, Oct. 11 at 9:30 and 10:30 AM, and 1:30 PM. Shows are approximately 45 minutes in length. Admission is $5 per person, adults and children. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling The Playhouse box office at 515-277-6261.
October's featured story is "The Little Red Hen." The Little Red Hen has a lot of work to do, and the other animals are too lazy to help her. She plants and reaps and grinds the wheat into flour, but when she uses the flour to bake the bread, will she want to share it?
Join the Clubhouse at The Playhouse Gang each month, October-June, as they dramatize a favorite story using their imaginations and the costume pieces and props they find in their magic trunk. Audience members learn the Clubhouse pledge and secret handshake, and listen for the word of the day. They even help act out the story.
Shows in the 2013-14 season include "The Frog Prince," Nov. 15, 2013, "The Elves and the Shoemaker," Dec. 13, 2013, "Pinocchio," Jan. 24, 2014, "The Mitten," Feb. 14, 2014, "Caps for Sale," Mar. 7, 2014, "Sleeping Beauty," Apr. 11, 2014, "The Three Little Pigs," May 16, 2014, and a special Friday Funday event, "The Cat in the Hat," June 26-28, 2014. Guests can purchase season tickets -- one ticket to each of the nine shows -- for just $40.
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
