DM Playhouse to Present THE LEOPARD'S DRUM, 4/17

The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents "The Leopard's Drum," Friday, Apr. 17. This story is part of Friday Funday, a creative participatory story theatre program for children ages 4-6. Performances are at the Playhouse, Friday, Apr. 17, at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, and 1:30 PM. Shows are approximately 45 minutes in length. Admission is $6 per person, adults and children. Join the Clubhouse at the Playhouse Gang each month, October-June, as they dramatize a favorite story using their imaginations and the costume pieces and props they find in their magic trunk. Audience members learn the Clubhouse pledge and secret handshake, and listen for the word of the day. April's featured story is "The Leopard's Drum." In this African folk tale, Leopard has a drum, but he won't share it with anyone else. Is Turtle smart enough to get the drum and earn a shell as well?

The 10:30 AM performance will have live audio description, provided by Iowa Radio Reading Information Service (IRIS). Audio description can enrich the experience for a wide variety of individuals, including those with limited vision and those with ADHD. Guests should let the ticket office know if they would like to use this free service.

The final show in the 2014-15 season is "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," May 15.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
