DM Playhouse Announces Auditions for RAGTIME

Auditions for the Tony-nominated musical "Ragtime" will be held at the Des Moines Playhouse at 6:30 PM on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. Those auditioning must bring a prepared solo; an accompanist will be provided as well as the ability to play a track from an iPhone or similar device. "Ragtime" contains speaking roles for 7 men, 4 women, 1 boy, 1 girl, and an ensemble of men, women, boys, and girls of multiple ethnicities. Two speaking roles are written for Black men, and 1 speaking role is written for a Black woman. Performances are Apr. 6-29, 2018. Where race, ethnicity, gender, age, or other personal differentiations are not specified by the script, the Playhouse casts plays without regard to these attributes.

Three families - embodied by an upper-class wife, a Jewish immigrant, and a Harlem musician - cross paths and their lives intertwine in pursuit of the American Dream. After a tragedy, people discover they have more in common than anyone thought. Based on the best-selling book by E.L. Doctorow with a Tony Award-winning score.

The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
