The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents Itamar Moses' new comedy, "Completeness," Feb. 1-17. Tickets may be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com, by phone at 515-277-6261, and at The Playhouse ticket office. "Completeness" is a Director's Discovery.

According to South Coast Repertory (Costa Mesa, CA), where the play debuted in 2011, "Completeness" is a contemporary comedy about the timeless confusions of love that will appeal to everyone. How does a computer scientist hook up with a molecular biologist? He uses the algorithm method, of course. But when Elliot offers to build a computer program to help Molly with her latest research project, they discover that megabytes and microbes might not be compatible, and even the most sophisticated algorithm may freeze in the face of life's infinite possibilities.

Due to mature themes and sexual references, "Completeness" is recommended for ages 16 and older.

The Playhouse cast features Eric Lee, Caleb Lubka, Katy Merriman, and Molly Nelson, and is directed by John Viars.

"Completeness" is a Director's Discovery, which identifies lesser-known works that John Viars, Playhouse executive director, believes will push the usual boundaries for Playhouse actors and audiences. Viars saw the show on a recent trip to New York City and immediately pursued the rights. Thus, the Des Moines Community Playhouse is the first community theatre in the country to produce the show.

Itamar Moses is the author of the full-length plays "Outrage" and "Bach at Leipzig," among others, the musicals "Fortress of Solitude" and "Nobody Loves You," and the short play collection "Love/Stories (or But You Will Get Used to It)." His work has appeared Off-Broadway and at regional theatres across the country. He has taught playwriting at Yale and NYU. On television, he writes for both "Men of a Certain Age" on TNT and "Boardwalk Empire" on HBO.

The Playhouse will host preshow talks and weekend cabarets in conjunction with "Completeness." Audiences are encouraged to come to the theatre 30 minutes prior to curtain for a preshow talk with artistic staff. After the show, on Friday and Saturday evenings, audiences are invited to stay for live music and drinks in the lobby.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
