Theater Company of Lafayette to Stage Regional Premiere of BLOOD PRIVILEGE

By:

"Blood Privilege," a startling new work that rocked audiences in New York and London, makes its regional premiere March 3 - 25 at the Theater Company of Lafayette, 300 East Simpson Street, Lafayette, CO 80026.

Performances run Fridays, Saturdays and Monday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. Ticket are $10 - $16. www.tclstage.org or 800-838-3006.

The play examines the myth of the infamous Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory who, in the late 1600s, was accused of murdering more than 600 local peasant girls in a bizarre and grisly attempt to retain her youth and beauty.

Was Elizabeth guilty? Or was her crime that she loaned a large sum of money to the Hungarian king and had the bad judgment to demand he pay it back?

Award-winning playwright Don Fried's visceral and haunting play explores obsession with youth and beauty, the need to be loved and the horrifying consequences facing powerful women.

Although "Blood Privilege" is a period piece set 400 years ago, its central theme is the concentration and abuse of wealth and power in the hands of a tiny elite. "That's not something which has changed in the last 400 -- or 4,000 -- years," says Fried. 'It's relevant to the current political and financial situations in the U.S. and around the world, and the play makes that very clear."

"Fast paced and atmospheric. Forbidding and ominous. Don't miss this play." - UK Theatre Network

The cast includes Elizabeth Lietaert as Erzebet, Zane Garcia as Thurzo, Brad Rutledge as King Rudolph, Bill Graham as Sigray, Kristy Pike as Szilva, Melissa Shuman as Katalin, Sohrab Haghverdi as Nadasdy, Bradley Abeyta as Pataki and Don Thumim as Andraz.
