Regional Premiere of SENSE AND SENSIBILITY Opens at Black Box Rep, Today

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities continues the 2017 - 2018 Black Box Season with the regional premiere of Sense and Sensibility by Kate Hamill on Friday, January 26, 2018. Sense and Sensibility directed by the Arvada Center Director of Plays, Lynne Collins is a playful adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel. The Off-Broadway world premiere was named Top Ten of 2014 by Ben Brantley chief theater critic of the New York Times and by the Huffington Post, which called it "the greatest stage adaptation of this novel in history." Sense and Sensibility is the first of three plays that will perform in repertory running into May. Sense and Sensibility is underwritten by Diana and Mike Kinsey. The 2017 - 2018 Theatre Season is sponsored by Lutheran Medical Center.

Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with matinées on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m., through May 6. Preview performances are January 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. Post-performance audience talkbacks will be offered on Friday, February, 16 and Wednesday, March, 14. Chats with the Cast are offered before and after every performance. These are informal discussions held in the Black Box Lobby, give patrons the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the play. This rollicking, ingeniously-theatrical new adaptation of the Jane Austen classic follows the Dashwood sisters - sensible Elinor and passionate Marianne as they pursue their quest for love and happiness. When they lose their fortune, marriage is their only hope but can love and marriage go together for women without money? Surrounding them is a company of shape-shifting actors who transform into characters, animals, and even scenery to bring Austen's story to life in this goofy, joyous and deeply moving play.
