Photo Flash: First Look at The Edge Theatre's ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST

By:

The Edge Theatre Company presents "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," a witty, touching and enduring example of an individual's battle not to succumb to the forces of a dehumanizing, demoralizing society, in their new home at 1560 Teller Street, Suite 200, Lakewood, Colo. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

Narrated by Indian "Chief" Bromden (Sam Gilstrap), this story focuses on the antics of gleefully rebellious Randle P. McMurphy (Scott Bellot). McMurphy is transferred from a prison work farm to the hospital, thinking it will be an easy way to serve out his sentence. He has a fine time hustling the patients, until he realizes that he is more than a diversion for them; he gives them the lives they are too afraid to live for themselves. McMurphy also presents a discipline problem and challenge to the authority of buttoned-up, middle-aged Nurse Ratched (Jada Roberts*), who exercises near-total power over those in her care, including her subordinates.

Completing the cast (in alphabetical order) are Ryan Danielson (Aide Williams), Bob Byrnes (Ruckly), Randy Diamon (Dr. Spivey), Kelly Dwyer (Nurse Flinn), Ryan Goold (Martini), John Greene (Cheswick), Leroy Leonard (Scanlon), Amanda Holter (Sandra), Peter Marullo (Aide Warren), Ken Street (Dale Harding), Maggy Stacy (Candy Starr) and Joe Von Bokern (Billy Bibbit).

Dale Wasserman's stage adaptation made its Broadway preview on November 12, 1963, its premiere on November 13, and ran until January 25, 1964 for a total of one preview and 82 performances. Since then, the play has had two revivals: first off-Broadway in 1971, with Danny DeVito as Martini, then as a Broadway production in 2001 with Gary Sinise as McMurphy for which it won a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. A film version released in 1975 was based on the novel, but not on the play.

The Edge Theatre's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" runs through June 30, 2013. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.; Sundays at 6:00 p.m. June 7 - 30. Tickets for all performances are $22 Adult/$18 student and seniors and are available by calling 303-232-0363 or online at www.theedgetheater.com. Group rates are available. *Ms. Roberts appears courtesy of Actors Equity Association
