Lakewood Cultural Center Announces The 2018-2019 Season

The Lakewood Cultural Center (LCC) is proud to announce the LCC Presents 2018-2019 season, bringing an exciting mix of music, dance and theater to Lakewood beginning in September. Hailed as one of "10 Colorado arts organizations that get it right" by The Denver Post, LCC is known throughout the state for its exceptional programs, offering intimate access to world-class performances in its 320-seat theater.

The Flying Karamazov Brothers | 7:30 p.m., Friday & Saturday, Sept. 28 & 29

Expect the unexpected with this showcase of astonishing juggling feats, laugh-out-loud comedy and wild theatrics that have taken these eccentric performers to Broadway, television and the big screen.

Mirari Brass Quintet | 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5

This stellar group experiments with a variety of genres not originally intended for brass alone and balances refined mastery with pure fun. "Equally at home performing everything from Renaissance transcriptions to Charles Mingus charts, the ensemble is quickly establishing itself as one of the premier groups of its kind." - Dr. James Boldin, University of Louisiana-Monroe.

Sybarite5 | 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11

String quintet Sybarite5's eclectic repertoire from Bowie to Radiohead and Akiho to Assad, combined with its commanding performance style, is turning heads throughout the music world. "Expect an experience that will satisfy your inner rock star and your secret Mozart." - Arizona Daily Star.

Call of the Wild: Illustrated Edition | 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25

Recommended for ages 9 and older.

Theatre Heroes brings Jack London's classic tale to life on stage. This multi-media adventure mixes performance, storytelling and projected illustrations to tell the story of sled dog Buck.

Nobuntu | 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27

From Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, this five-member female a cappella ensemble performs a fusion of Zimbabwean-rooted music, Afro jazz, gospel and crossover. Nobuntu's concerts are accentuated by traditional colorful clothing, authentic dance movements and hand percussion instruments.

Aquila Theatre: Frankenstein | 7:30 p.m., Thursday & Friday, Nov. 8 & 9

Written in 1818, Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" follows the terrifying results after a scientist creates an artificial human. The production by Aquila Theatre - one of the foremost producers of touring classical theater in the United States - is bold and thrilling while paying homage to the original novel.

Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas | 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17

Alasdair Fraser, regarded as Scotland's premier fiddle ambassador, and brilliant cellist Natalie Haas dazzle audiences internationally with Scottish dance rhythms. The duo has five critically acclaimed albums and has won the coveted the Scots Trad Music "Album of the Year" award, the Scottish equivalent of a GRAMMY.

Timothy P. & The Rocky Mountain Stocking Stuffers | 7:30 p.m., Friday & Saturday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1; 2 p.m. Saturday & Sunday, Dec. 1-2

Delighting audiences for the 15th holiday season, Timothy P. Irvin and his 10-piece string band bring resounding cheer and humor to the stage. Bluegrass, country and folk renditions of favorite holiday songs make this concert a beloved annual tradition, Lakewood style!

BODYTRAFFIC | 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16

With a versatile repertoire, cutting-edge works and distinctive choreographic voices, Los Angeles-based BODYTRAFFIC is one of the most talked about contemporary dance companies. Internationally recognized, its moves are inspired by jazz, hip hop and ballet.

Amber Brown Is Not a Crayon | 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17

Recommended for ages 6 and older.

ArtsPower's uniquely funny and forthright musical portrays a feisty young girl who refuses to let her problems get the better of her. Amber learns some valuable lessons about the virtues of patience and the meaning of forgiveness.

Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado | 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21

The region's only professional period instrument orchestra presents the musical riches of the 17th and 18th centuries. With a Telemann triple concerto from Tafelmusik (Music for the Table) as the main course, the rest of this musical feast is voted on by the audience.

CATAPULT: The Amazing Magic of Shadow Dance | 2 & 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 2

As seen on television shows like "America's Got Talent" and "The Oprah Winfrey Show," CATAPULT is the top company of its kind. Talented dancers work behind a screen to create seemingly impossible shadow silhouettes - a theatrical art form that combines dance, storytelling and sculpture. Enjoyable for ages 8 through adult.

Alfredo Rodríguez & Pedrito Martinez | 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 9

These GRAMMY-nominated virtuosos reunite for a high-octane Cuban-born, New York-based brand of modern Latin jazz. Pianist Rodríguez was discovered by Quincy Jones, and percussionist/vocalist Martinez has performed with artists such as Eddie Palmieri, Paul Simon and Wynton Marsalis.

The Swingles: Folklore | 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 16

The seven singers in today's London-based a cappella ensemble are driven by the same innovative spirit that has defined the five-time GRAMMY-winning group since the 1960s. Inspired by experiences touring the world, the group sings folk melodies from diverse countries plus audience favorites from five decades of Swingle history.

Crazy for You co-presented with Performance Now Theatre Company | 7:30 p.m., Friday & Saturday; 2 p.m., Saturday & Sunday; March 22-April 7

A zany rich-boy-meets-hometown-girl romantic comedy based on popular George and Ira Gershwin tunes including "I Got Rhythm," "Embraceable You," "Nice Work if You Can Get It" and "Someone to Watch Over Me."

Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience | 7:30 p.m., Friday & Saturday, April 12 & 13

No wigs or accents here. Billy McGuigan's talented band has memorized all 200+ songs of the Beatles anthology to play on a moment's notice during this live-request theatrical concert. Audience members provide reasons behind their requests, making every show interactive and unique.

Takács Quartet | 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 20

Lakewood is incredibly fortunate to have Takács Quartet return to its stage. Among the preeminent string quartets playing in the world today, the GRAMMY-winning ensemble performs with an irresistible blend of virtuosic technique and engaging personality. "The Takács Quartet are matchless, their supreme artistry manifest at every level." - The Guardian UK.
