CenterStage Seeks Kids For Unique ANIMAL FARM Workshop

CenterStage Theatre Company will offer The ANIMAL FARM WRITING/ACTING WORKSHOP: A collaboration with film and theatre artist, Mathew Klickstein, in the creative reimagining of the classic story, ANIMAL FARM.

This workshop-part improv, part discussion group, part creative play-is for youth ages 8 to 14 who will have the opportunity to share their unique voices and perspectives in concocting a new script based on the themes of the famous Orwell story. The workshop process will meet weekly starting April 18 to June 20 from 4:15pm to 6:15pm on Thursdays. Workshop attendees will "crowd source" (a la television writers room, guided by industry professional Mathew Klickstein) their own original production, based on their own personal experiences, utilizing the timeless concepts brought up in George Orwell's immortal novel ANIMAL FARM. What they will end up with is a full script of their own (likely one hour in length) that they will perform themselves. The rehearsal period begins August 1 through September 12 and will culminate in a one of a kind theatrical experience as actors from the workshop and rehearsal process perform the new work in Louisville and Boulder.

Mathew Klickstein previously mentored an adaptation of "The Lord of the Flies" with Orange Mouse Theatricals in Lawrence, Kansas. As producer and co-writer on the project, Mathew workshopped the script with a group of nine local girls (ages 8-16) to produce a unique, immersive theatre experience based on the girls' own lives and personalities. The play "Ladies of the Fly" opened at the Cider Gallery in Lawrence, KS in August 2016. Allison Wilson, a high school junior involved in this workshop spoke about their process this way, "At first, we were kind of shy around each other, and now we're just like a big family," said Wilson, 16. "It's nice. Our differences make us an interesting group, I guess."

Mathew Klickstein is a longtime journalist, filmmaker, author, playwright, arts therapist and pop culture historian. His credits include numerous books, films and television work. Find out more at https://www.mathewklickstein.com/
