The Denver Center Theatre Company (DCTC) concluded its Seventh Annual Colorado New Play Summit on a high note, with the announcement that one of its premieres has been signed for a production in New York. The three-day festival, which has rapidly become one of the nation's top tier new play festivals, included multiple standing-room-only showings of three play readings, a staged reading of a musical, a multimedia workshop, and two fully-produced main stage plays, one of which – The Whale, by 2011 Obie winner Samuel D. Hunter - will now be presented in October 2012 at New York's Playwrights Horizons.

The Summit also included a Playwrights' Slam, a late night gathering where invited playwrights read excerpts from their latest in-progress works. Throughout the weekend, avid members of the public joined with artistic directors, literary managers, dramaturgs, directors, and press representatives who traveled from across the country to view the latest works by both well-established and exciting new voices in American theatre. Among those represented were two new works by Pulitzer nominee Lisa Loomer, a Jane Austen novel set to music, a new take on reality TV gone amok, and direction by Broadway veterans Marcia Milgrom Dodge (Ragtime) and Sam Buntrock (Sunday in the Park with George, among others).

The Summit is curated by Artistic Director Kent Thompson, Associate Artistic Director and Director of New Play Development Bruce K. Sevy and Literary Manager Douglas Langworthy. The complete list of works seen includes: Sense & Sensibility The Musical, Book and Lyrics by Jeffrey Haddow, Music by Neal Hampton; Grace, or The Art of Climbing by Lauren Feldman; The Hand of God by Richard Dresser; Homefree by Lisa Loomer; Ed, Downloaded by Michael Mitnick; The Whale by Samuel D. Hunter; and Two Things You Don't Talk About At Dinner by Lisa Loomer.

The 2013 Colorado New Play Summit will take place February 8 through 10, 2013, at the Denver Center Theatre Company's complex in downtown Denver. For information visit www.denvercenter.org.
