The Royal Danish Ballet will premiere a new production of The Great Gatsby at the Opera House’s Main Stage this May. Choreographed by Arthur Pita and set to the music of George Gershwin, this ballet adaptation brings F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel to life through dance.
The production features set and costume designs by Gary McCann and lighting by Jonas Bøgh, promising a visually stunning experience. The Royal Danish Ballet will perform this world premiere, capturing the opulence and tragedy of the Jazz Age.
Against this backdrop unfolds the dramatic story of the wealthy, charismatic Jay Gatsby, who, surrounded by luxury, is obsessed with reclaiming his great love, the beautiful but somewhat self-absorbed Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby is a dreamer, and his schemes ultimately lead to tragic consequences, not just for himself but for everyone involved.
The Great Gatsby is a mesmerizing account of a time when extravagance and decay coexisted. Portuguese choreographer Arthur Pita brings Fitzgerald's immortal characters to life, accompanied by the era's elegant Gershwin music.
Performances run May 3 - 31, 2025. Tickets are available through the Royal Danish Theatre's official website.
