SOCIAL MOVEMENTS: 1968 WILMINGTON UPRISING AND OCCUPATION is a modern dance production that delves into the pivotal events surrounding the 1968 riots in Wilmington, Delaware, and the subsequent National Guard Occupation. Using Freedom Songs from the 1960s, along with text from official documents and personal narratives, the dancers embody the stories of those who experienced this transformative period. This performance is designed for students in grades 6-12 and will be accompanied by a scholar-led discussion, enriching the educational experience and providing context to this crucial chapter in local history.
