Possum Point Players' LEADING LADIES to Cook Up Comedy and Cuisine, 1/30-2/8
In Possum Hall, the kitchen will soon be as busy as the action on stage as Possum Point Players prepare entertainment and nourishment for dinner theatre set for Jan. 30 and 31 and Feb. 1, 6, 7 and 8. The show, "Leading Ladies," is strictly for laughs and the food is to fill and satisfy all who partake.
Fridays and Saturdays, dinner 6:00 pm, show 7:30 pm; Sundays, dinner 12:30 pm, show 2:00 pm. Tickets are $45 for dinner and show; $20 show only. Dinner seating is limited, so reserve early to make sure you have a seat at the table.
"Leading Ladies" features scheming out-of-work Shakespearean actors and an aging, rich dowager close to her final curtain call. The plot can only get kinkier when the scamming actors find a major flaw in their plan to pass themselves off as heirs to the dowager's fortune. Upon learning the nephews they plan to portray are actually fairer sex nieces, they stage a superficial switch and don blush, bouffant wigs and figure flattering couture. Mendacity, girly make-up and romance all ensue as the biologically correct nieces materialize!
All of this nefarious behavior takes place in what is normally tranquil and bucolic Amish countryside in Pennsylvania. Switching from swashbuckling Shakespearean to demure and proper United Kingdom kindred are Jim Killion (Leo) and Doug Friend (Jack). Entertaining in itself, Esther Friend, Doug's off-stage mom, portrays Florence, the dowager due for demise. E.J. Panico and Kim Klabe present little make-up and costuming challenge as the actual heiresses, Audrey and Meg. John Marino (Duncan), Ron Pakula (Doc) and Bill Ulichney (Butch) round out the cast.
Tickets may be purchased on line at possumpointplayers.org or by calling the players' ticketline, 302-856-4560.
Possum Point Players is supported, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
