Jubilee Theatre Announces Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery, 1/21-2/20

By:

Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery returns to the Jubilee Stage as the first production under new artistic director Tre Garrett. Written by Shay Youngblood and directed by Phyllis Cicero, Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery previews January 21 and runs through February 20. Cicero most recently worked at Jubilee as the director of 2010's critically acclaimed From the Mississippi Delta, named one of the top ten productions in Tarrant County by The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery tells the story of Daughter's coming of age in the 1960s and the influences of the women around her, some blood relatives, some not. The dynamic all-female cast features several longtime Jubilee favorites as well as newcomers to the Jubilee stage. Charlet Dupar stars as Daughter and is accompanied on stage by May Allen, Evette Perry Buchanan, Olivia Morrow Payne, Karen Petite, Michele Rene and Genine Ware.

The theatre is also excited to announce its first National Endowment of the Arts grant for Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery. In partnership with director Phyllis Cicero and playwright Shay Youngblood, Jubilee Theatre will work with area schools to produce their own versions of Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery. Casts selected from three high schools in the Fort Worth ISD will work directly with Jubilee to produce their own versions of Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery, to be performed on the Jubilee stage at the close of the show.

Previews for Shakin' the Mess Outta Misery are January 21, 22, 23 and 27. Opening night will be Friday, January 28 and the show closes on Sunday, February 20. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm with matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 3pm. Tickets are available now with prices ranging from $10 - $25. To purchase tickets, visit www.jubileetheatre.org, or contact the Box Office via email: tickets@jubileetheatre.org or phone: 817.338.4411.
