The 2014 Studio SCR series at South Coast Repertory offers five works that: Earned honors including Best Comedy at the Hollywood Fringe Festival and Ovation Awards; Have been created by a MacArthur Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation fellowship recipient; Found inspiration in the writings of Tennessee Williams and Nathaniel Hawthorne; and Push the boundaries of the theatrical form through hip-hop culture, improvisation and science.
Boston Court Receives NEA Art Works Grant

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that The Theatre @ Boston Court is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. Boston Court is recommended for a $10,000 grant to support the first phase of a multifaceted new play development program.

Segerstrom Center's 2013 – 2014 Chamber Music Series comes to a thrilling conclusion with the esteemed Philharmonia Chamber Players performing an effervescent evening of master baroque music on March 16 at Samueli Theater. The inspired program emphasizes both diversity and unity found in the genre through works by Telemann, Marcello, Vivaldi, Handel and two selections by J.S. Bach, including his Wedding Cantata. This will be the first cantata ever performed in the intimate setting of Samueli Theater and will feature soprano Sherezade Panthaki. San Francisco Classical Voice states, 'Sherezade Panthaki was the most moving singer of the evening for me, displaying consummate musicianship and a fully invested expressivity.'

Caroline Bowman, who stars as Eva Peron in the current run of EVITA at the Center, and Desi Oakley, who performs in certain performances, popped up to the audience engagement displays in the Segerstrom Center lobbies on Wednesday evening. They stepped into the balcony setting to give the signature Eva salute, posted their own dreams on the Wall of Dreams and posed next to vintage photographs of the former first lady of Argentina. Theatrical Producers League of Los Angeles Announces New Organization to Merge Intimate and Mid-Size Theaters

The Theatrical Producers League of Los Angeles (TPLLA) announced today an official merger of the organization between the Intimate Theatres (99 seats or less) and Midsize Theatres (100 - 699 seats) with the expectation that the LORT/CLO/Large Size theatres will be joining the newly formed organization shortly. Although each membership group has unique variables, there is common ground. In an effort to formalize an organization to serve as an umbrella for these common issues and concerns, a new 501(c)(6) is being formed. At present the Midsized and Intimate theatres are working together actively to move this forward. The LORT, CLO, and Larger theatres have expressed support and will be on board once the umbrella organization is in place. Two sub-committees for the umbrella organization have already been formed in Marketing & Communications, and Vision & Branding, with a goal of unifying all constituents around a strategic plan that reflects the League's mission.

There aren't many things that signal the beginning of the holiday season quite like watching It's a Wonderful Life. STAGEStheatre is proud to kick off the holiday season with the adaptation of this heartwarming classic. In Joe Landry's adaptation, It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play it's December 24, 1946 in Studio A at WSTG Radio and a cast of actors are preparing to present It's a Wonderful Life live to their listening audience. With the help of a pianist and a sound effects artist, the ensemble recreates the story of George Bailey, a young man whose dreams of traveling the world are thwarted by his sense of responsibility to the family business. Down on his luck, George Bailey, a compassionate yet disheartened businessman, is at the end of his rope, questioning his purpose in life. Just when he comes to believe that life is not worth the effort, some divine intervention allows him to see the way that his life has affected all those he loves, and he learns what his life is really worth.

George Carlin famously joked a topic had to be universal for it to be funny. Well this topic certainly is and this show is hysterical!
