Costa Mesa Playhouse Presents The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee 10/16

By:

Ready to have some F-U-N? Then come to the Costa Mesa Playhouse this fall when the theater presents the hit Broadway musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee October 16 - November 16, 2010. Music & Lyrics are by William Finn, with a book by Rachel Sheinkin. The play is directed by David Anthony Blair.

This charming Tony Award-winning one-act musical celebrates the triumph of doing the best you can. Six nerdy adolescents from Putnam Valley Middle School, in the midst of adolescent angst, discover themselves while struggling to win the school's spelling bee, run by three equally-quirky grownups.

The Broadway production opened in April 2005 at New York's Circle in the Square Theater, where it is still playing. An unusual aspect of the show is that four real audience members are invited on stage to compete in the spelling bee alongside the six young characters.
