BWW Interviews: Actor Kyle Kleiboeker Answers Our Silly Query

By:

It's always a treat to spot a familiar face you've seen on the stages of New York or perhaps in a national tour production moonlighting on the small screen---just ask anyone who's ever seen their fave stage actors guest star on any iteration of Law & Order.

This summer, musical theater actor Kyle Kleiboeker---who traveled the country in the touring companies of the hit musicals THE WEDDING SINGER, HAIRSPRAY and RENT---will be seen in the new USA Network reality competition series Summer Camp beginning Thursday, July 11. Of course, many keen-eyed BWW readers probably know him best from his series of hilarious touring videos while traveling with THE WEDDING SINGER that were showcased right here on StageTube.

Currently living in New York, Kleiboeker hopes to one day make the big move to Los Angeles permanently to become an Entertainment News Correspondent.

But for now, BroadwayWorld's Michael L. Quintos subjected him to a few silly questions...

----

Subject: Kyle Kleiboeker
Nickname: Dad ("I know... it's weird. Long story.")
Hometown: Prairie Village, Kansas ("Yes, I'm a friend of Dorothy!")

Alright, as a kid, what was your favorite thing about summer camp?

Decorating my room! I was SO over-the-top... I would stay up for hours making chain-link out of construction paper!

If you went to a musical-centric summer camp, who would you likely pursue... Nick Jonas, Demi Lovato, Vanessa Hudgens, or Zac Efron?

Demi Lovato! She is everything! I really love her... in a totally 15-year-old, would-cry-if-I-met-her sort of way. Yes, I'm a grown man.

What does the word "Pride" mean to you?

Pride means loving YOU and wanting the world to know it!

When you traveled in national tours, what was your must-do, pre-show ritual?

I would always brush my teeth right before a show.

In one word, describe what goes through your head right before you step out on a stage:

"How's my hair?" ... Oh crap, that wasn't one word!

Describe the most embarrassing moment that happened to you during a show?

It was when I was performing on cruise ships... I'm pretty sure I had the most epic voice crack in singing history on stage! Cut me some slack---I was only 18 years old! But, I wanted to literally jump in the ocean and swim home! AWFUL.

What is your dream role in a musical that you haven't played yet?

"Gabe" in NEXT TO NORMAL. Hands down.

What song do you like belting in the shower or when you're all alone in the car?

Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know"... Obviously.

Me too! Okay, what scares you the most?

Snakes. Absolutely terrifying. I can't.

What is your one guilty pleasure?

Drinking soda. Don't judge me.

What do you like to do on your day(s) off?

Go to the movies!

What or Who irritates You the most?

People who don't like Carrie Underwood... Those terrible people.

What instantly puts a smile on your face?

Seeing puppies!

If you could trade lives with someone for one day, who would that person be and why?

Carrie Underwood. That voice! That hair! Those shoes! Those legs!

If you weren't an actor, what other career do you see yourself doing?

I think I would probably be working with kids in some way.

And lastly, what makes you a good Camp-er?

I like to have fun---I get along with all different types of people! I loved the social aspects of Summer Camp... but I'm also a strong physical competitor and definitely brought my A-Game when I needed to.
