Yale's No Boundaries Series Presents Maria Jerez, Rude Mechs In NO BOUNDARIES

NO BOUNDARIES: A SERIES OF GLOBAL PERFORMANCES, presented by Yale Repertory Theatre (James Bundy, Artistic Director; Victoria Nolan, Managing Director) and World Performance Project at Yale (Joseph Roach, Principal Investigator; Emily Coates, Artistic Director), announces its 2010-11 season, which includes the American premiere of The Case of the Spectator, by Spanish performance artist María Jerez; The Method Gun, by the American ensemble-based company Rude Mechs; and a special preview engagement of Nameless forest, a collaboration by American choreographer and video artist Dean Moss and South Korean sculptor Sungmyung Chun.
NO BOUNDARIES celebrates the diversity of voices and experiences in today's world. NO BOUNDARIES explores-and explodes-the frontiers of theatrical invention through cutting-edge, thought-provoking dance, music, and theatre. Tearing down cultural, linguistic, and geographic barriers, NO BOUNDARIES extends and enhances the educational mission of Yale University through a series of performances by artistic innovators from around the globe-right here in New Haven, right here at Yale.

Performance artist María Jerez has worked with dance, theatre, and visual artists in Madrid and Paris since 1997. In 2001, she began creating solo performance works. Both The Case of the Spectator and This Side Up were developed with the support of the University of Alcalá de Henares in Madrid. Her performance work has been featured in acclaimed theatre festivals across Europe and in Canada.

Yale Repertory Theatre (1120 Chapel Street)Acting guru Stella Burden suddenly and mysteriously moves to South America, leaving behind her devoted company members in the midst of a nine-year rehearsal process for A Streetcar Named Desire. In The Method Gun, the diaries and letters of Burden's followers are pieced together to recreate the company's final months of rehearsal. With biting wit and surprising tenderness, The Method Gun reveals the ecstasy and excesses of performance, the incompatibility of truth on stage and sanity in real life, and the indelible impact of mentors.
Rude Mechs is an ensemble-based company based in Austin, Texas, committed to the collaborative creation of brave new works for the stage. Since its founding in 1995, Rude Mechs has produced twenty-two original pieces which have been presented throughout the United States and internationally. The Method Gun premiered at the 2010 Humana Festival of New Plays to critical acclaim.

Iseman Theater (1156 Chapel Street)American video artist and choreographer Dean Moss and acclaimed South Korean sculptor Sungmyung Chun fuse theatre, dance, video, and sculpture in Nameless forest. Layers of diary fragments, war zone imagery, mirror and neon effects, and an original environmental score combine to explore the relationship between performer and viewer. This special preview engagement gives New Haven audiences an exclusive sneak peek into the cross-cultural, multidisciplinary process behind an innovative collaboration.
Dean Moss is a director, choreographer, and media artist who will be a Visiting Lecturer in Theater Studies at Yale this spring. He served as Curator of Dance and Performance at The Kitchen from 1999-2004, and his award-winning work has been exhibited and presented internationally at museums and festivals. Sungmyung Chun is a celebrated sculptor, installation artist, and poet from the Republic of Korea whose work has received several solo-shows in his home country and has been exhibited worldwide. He lectures in the College of Fine Arts at Kyunghee University and at Chugye University for the Arts. A monograph of his exhibition Swallowing the Shadow was published by TouchArt in 2008.
