Windham Theatre Guild to Stage THE LAST ROMANCE This February

Tony Award©-winning playwright Joe DiPietro's gorgeous tribute to the power of love, The Last Romance is the Windham Theatre Guild's next Main Stage production opening Friday, February 10th. An uncommonly sensitive portrayal of love's enduring spark across the ages, The Last Romance ignited the hearts of the Windham Theater Guild's playreading committee, who decided it was a perfect play to put on in the cold months of February. It's very funny, for one thing. And under the lovable characters and touching story, it's also a meditation on the different faces of love. Plus there's incredible singing!"

In DiPietro's inimitable hands, the story of love's everyday grandeur is told through the treasury of Italian opera. . . and the yipping of little dogs. After a lifetime of ups and downs, Italian-American siblings Rose and Ralph expect to live out the rest of their lives together in Hoboken, New Jersey. That is, until a woman named Carol, "like the song," appears walking her dog in the dog park. Carol, who is from the other side of town, captures Ralph's heart. As he tries to capture hers, he uses all his powers of persuasion, including the singing talent that almost landed him a job with the Metropolitan Opera. The play celebrates the human heart's capacity to love, but also asks what happens when Cupid's arrows rock the boat of our settled lives and obligations.

Michael Young returns to direct his second show for the Guild. The first show he directed was the highly acclaimed Second Samuel. Wayne Trembly of Mansfield plays Ralph, Raeleen D'Agostinio from Wallingford plays Rose, Pat Covino from Vernon is Carol, and professional tenor Vittorio DiCarlo is the Young Man.

The Last Romance runs February 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 & 25 at 8:00pm, a Sunday Matinee on February 19th at 2:00pm and Thursday, February 23rd at 7:30pm at the Burton Leavitt Theatre, 779 Main Street, Willimantic. Ticket prices are $19 for Adults, $16 for Students/Seniors, and $12 for children under 12. All UCONN, ECSU & QVCC students (with ID) pay the discounted price of $14. Group discounts are also available. Walmart of North Windham sponsors a Thursday night special. Anyone who buys a ticket at the door on Thursday, February 23rd will pay the children's price of just $12 a ticket. This special offer does NOT apply to tickets reserved in advance.
