TheatreWorks Offers Stage Two Program Free to Teens; HAIR Auditions Set for 7/8
By: BWW News Desk
Thanks in part to an anonymous donor, the TheatreWorks Stage Two Teen Program is now being offered FREE OF CHARGE to all teens ages 14 to 19.
This exciting new program, which begins with auditions on on Monday, July 8 will be led by Mr. Robert Bianca of Putnam Lake, NY with the assistance of Musical Director, Ms. Zoe Vandermeer of Gaylordsville, CT. Both instructors have an impressive background and experience in professional musical theatre and bring a fresh new approach to youths in our community and surrounding area.
This version will be an age-appropriate version of HAIR, and during the rehearsal process students will learn performance technique, including vocal training and exciting & original choreography. Our goal in TheatreWorks Stage Two is to inspire creativity, confidence and a sense of community through the exploration and practice of theatre skills.
Hair tells the story of the "tribe," a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in NYC and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. Claude, his good friend Berger, their roommate Sheila and their friends struggle to balance their young lives and loves with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parents and society. Ultimately, Claude must decide whether to resist the draft as his friend have done, or to succumb to the pressures of his parents and conservative America to serve in Vietnam, compromising his pacifist principles and risking his life for his country.
Rehearsals will take place Mondays through Thursdays from 9 am to 1 pm starting July 8 for five weeks, and culminate in performances for the public on August 9 and 10. Tuition is FREE. Registration link AND A VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR Robert Bianca is available at http://theatreworks.us/kids.php.
