This undergraduate main stage opera tells the well-known Grimm's fairy tale of a poor broom-maker's children who become lost in the woods, get captured by an evil witch, and use their wits to escape. Set to the lilting melodies and lush orchestration of famous turn-of-the-century composer E. Humperdinck, this production is sure to delight! As an added treat, Hartt Dance Division students also appear in this production in a section choreographed by Dance Division Director Stephen Pier.

Music Director/Conductor Doris Lang Kosloff and Stage Director Ron Luchsinger bring this beloved opera to life. Undergraduate vocal students headlining alternating casts are: Waylon Jacques and Miguel Vasquez as Peter; Shannen Hofheimer and Kate May as Gertrude; Raquel Fatiuk-Wilkerson and Erica Jeski as Hansel; Elena Jarlson and Lydia McClain as Gretel; Lindsey Grebeldinger and Kyle Torrence as the Witch; Jessica Berube and Dana Kephart as the Sandman; and Sydney Anderson and Gabrielle Brazaukas as the Dew Fairy. In addition, The Connecticut Children's Chorus appear as Gingerbread Children.

The Hartt School is the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford that offers innovative degree programs in music, dance, and theatre. Founded 90 years ago, Hartt has been an integral part of the University of Hartford since its charter merged the then Hartt School of Music, the Hartford Art School, and Hillyer College to create the University in 1957. 2010 marks Hartt's 90th year of providing world class performing arts education to students in Greater-Hartford and around the world.
