The Hartt School presents The Hartt School Collegium Musicum in Concert on Wednesday, December 1, at 8:00 PM in Berkman RecitAl Hall. Directed by Dr. Kenneth Nott and Emlyn Ngai, The Hartt School Collegium Musicum presents an exciting program of 17th and 18th century music. Admission is free. Seating is limited.

The Hartt School Presents Carmen (abridged in French) Iolanthe (abridged)
The Hartt School presents Undergraduate Black Box Opera Scenes, Carmen (abridged in French) and Iolanthe (abridged), on Thursday, December 2, at 7:30 PM in Millard Auditorium. Doris Lang Kosloff is music director/conductor and Michele McBride is stage director. Come share the laughter and sorrow of these classic operatic works. Delight in the antics of Gilbert and Sullivan's endearing characters from fairies to high nobles of the court in Iolanthe. Then get lost in the tragic story of Carmen set to Bizet's sumptuous music. Admission is free.

The Hartt School Presents a Double Bass Studio Recital

The Hartt School Presents Ah, Wilderness!
The Hartt School presents Ah, Wilderness! Thursday, December 2, through Friday, December 4, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, December 5, at 3:00 PM, in the Kent McCray Theater, Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford. Eugene O'Neill's only comedy is a loving and nostalgic recollection of a Connecticut family's life in the early 1900's. Strength and good humor help the Miller family overcome the obstacles and temptations that so hauntEd O'Neill's other fictional families. Special guest artist Terry Layman directs Ah, Wilderness! Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

The Hartt School Presents The Hartt Percussion Ensemble, with Guest Artist Ted Piltzecker
The Hartt School presents The Hartt Percussion Ensemble on Friday, December 3, at 7:30 PM in Millard Auditorium. The Hartt Percussion Ensemble presents an evening of chamber music, composed by and featuring guest artist Ted Piltzecker. The program includes premiere performances of works composed expressly for this concert. Admission is free.

The Hartt School Community Division Presents the Connecticut Philharmonia
The Hartt School Community Division presents The Connecticut Philharmonia, the Community Division's new intermediate level ensemble designed for students in grades 7-12, on Saturday, December 4, at 2:00 PM, in Lincoln Theater. The ensemble performs under the direction of conductors Alan Francis and Mickey Reisman. Admission is free.

The Hartt School presents Performance 20/20, Hartt's premier chamber music program, presents three different concerts featuring distinctive, new, and exciting programming. Performances are on Saturday, December 4, at 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM, and Sunday, December 5, at 2:00 PM, in Berkman RecitAl Hall. Admission is free. Seating is limited.

The Hartt School Presents Sing for the City
The Hartt School presents Sing for the City on Sunday, December 5, at 3:00 PM, at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford. The Hartt choruses, singers from St. Patrick-St. Anthony, and guest choirs present a holiday fundraising concert for Catherine's House, a program providing housing, food, and support to homeless women in recovery. The concert features joyous holiday favorites and a rousing audience sing-a-long. Come and ring in the holidays and know you are helping to raise money for a wonderful organization in Hartford! Admission is a $15 suggested donation at the door.

The Hartt School Presents Foot in the Door
The Hartt School Presents Foot in the Door, Hartt's contemporary music ensemble, on Wednesday, December 8, in Lincoln Theater, at 7:30 PM. This concert explores a world of dreams and flights of imagination, where composers move into realms of life that are both familiar and exotic, casting their creative nets to transform their personal experiences into vibrant visions and sonic canvases. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Samuel Barber, Foot in the Door performs the composer's lyric masterpiece for wind quintet, Summer Music. Hartt faculty composer Steve Gryc explores a tune of Bela Bartok to weave his Fantasy Variations for saxophone and string quartet. William Bolcom's Orphée Serenade is a romp through the centuries and different styles, classical and popular. And faculty guitarist Christopher Ladd premieres faculty composer Robert Carl's "fantastic" chamber concerto for guitar and orchestra, The Calm Bee in the Busy Hive. Admission is free.

The Hartt School Presents The Glorious Ones and Summer of '42
The Hartt School presents The Glorious Ones and Summer of '42 in repertory, Wednesday, December 8 through Sunday, December 12 in The Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation Theater, Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford. The Glorious Ones is a joyfully naughty and bawdy musical that follows a 16th century traveling troupe of commedia dell'arte actors in their quest for love and glory. Book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. Directed by Hartt faculty member David Watson. Performances are on December 8, at 7:30 PM; Friday, December 10, at 7:30 PM; and Saturday, December 11, at 2:00 PM. Summer of '42 takes place in the summer of 1942, when three teenage boys have a summer they will never forget. Book by Hunter Foster; music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum; based upon the novel and screenplay by Herman Raucher. Directed by Michael John McGann. Performances are Thursday, December 9, at 7:30 PM; Saturday, December 11, at 7:30 PM; and Sunday, December 12, at 3:00 PM. Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

The Hartt School Presents Hammerklavier
The Hartt School presents Hammerklavier on Thursday, December 9, at 8:00 PM, in Berkman RecitAl Hall. This concert features solo performances by pianists from Hartt's Piano Department. Admission is free. Seating is limited.

The Hartt School Presents Bang on a Can All-Stars as part of the Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series
The Hartt School presents Bang on a Can All-Stars as part of the Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series on Thursday, December 9, in Millard Auditorium. Bang on a Can All-Stars is the internationally celebrated new-music group whose every concert is a unique event. The six person ensemble, which includes Hartt's dynamic professor of bass Robert Black, performs to cheering audiences all over the world. Admission is $30 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

The Hartt School Presents a Sophomore Vocal Recital
The Hartt School presents a Sophomore Vocal Recital on Friday, December 10, at 3:00 PM, in Berkman RecitAl Hall. Sophomore vocal students perform Robert Schumann's Liederkreis cycles. Admission is free. Seating is limited.

The Hartt School Presents the 2010 "Unclaimed Property" Composer-In-Residence Concert Series
The Hartt School presents Pulitzer Prize winning composer Jennifer Higdon, who is spotlighted in this concert Series sponsored by Susan Brake, Friday and Saturday, December 10 and 11.

Hartt Wind Ensemble
The Hartt Wind Ensemble performs a concert in honor of Jennifer Higdon on Friday, December 10, at 7:30 PM in Lincoln Theater. The Wind Ensemble premiers a new work by the 2010 Pulitzer Prize winning composer, features Hartt violin professor Anton Miller performing Kurt Weill's Violin Concerto, and Hartt cello professor Mihai Tetel playing the Concertino for Cello and Wind Orchestra by Jaques Ibert. Jennifer Higdon will be honored by the University of Hartford with an honorary doctoral degree during a special ceremony that will be part of this very special evening. Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

Hartt Symphony Orchestra
The Hartt Symphony Orchestra performs on Saturday, December 11, at 2:30 PM in Lincoln Theater. Maestro Edward Cumming leads the orchestra in an array of orchestral masterpieces, including works by Jennifer Higdon. Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

Hartt Symphony Band
The Hartt Symphony Band performs in Millard Auditorium, at 7:30 PM. Under the direction of Matthew Aubin, the Hartt Symphony Band features works by two 20th Century masters. In celebration of what would have been the composer's 100th birthday year, Commando March by Samuel Barber opens the program. Other pieces include a 2007 transcription of Aaron Copland's "Promise of Living" from The Tender Land and works by Jennifer Higdon. Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

The Hartt School Presents a Free Improvisation Class Concert
The Hartt School presents a Free Improvisation Class Concert on Sunday, December 12, at 2:00 PM in Berkman RecitAl Hall. The performance is by students from the Free Improvisation Course. Admission is free. Seating is limited.

The Hartt School Community Division Presents Suzuki Orchestras
The Hartt School Community Division presents The Suzuki Orchestras in concert, under the direction of Emmett Drake, on Sunday, December 12, at 3:00 PM in Lincoln Theater. Admission is free.

The Hartt School Community Division Presents the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble
The Hartt School Community Division presents The Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble on Sunday, December 12, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium at 7:30 PM. The Ensemble performs under the direction of Glen Adsit. Admission is $8.00.

The Hartt School presents End of Semester Chamber Music Concerts on Sunday, December 12, at 5:00 PM, and Monday through Thursday, December 13 through 16, at 7:00 PM, in Berkman RecitAl Hall. Hartt chamber groups perform a wide selection of repertoire. Each concert features a different repertoire and performers. Admission is free. Seating is limited.

The Hartt School Community Division Presents a Suzuki Group Concert
The Hartt School Community Division presents a Suzuki Group Concert on Saturday, December 18, in Lincoln Theater. Guitars perform at 12:00 PM, and strings perform at 3:00 PM. Admission is free.

The Hartt School Community Division Presents The Nutcracker (abridged)
The Hartt School Community Division presents The Nutcracker (abridged) on Saturday, December 18, at 7:00 PM and Sunday, December 19, at 2:00 PM in Millard Auditorium. Join the Hartt Community Division's talented dancers for excerpts of this inspiring holiday favorite, featuring Community Division alumna and current American Ballet Theatre dancer Meaghan Hinkis as the Sugar Plumb Fairy. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for seniors and students. There are no discounts available for this performance, which is entirely funded by ticket sales.
