Tensions Rise Due to Proposal to Demonlish Shakespeare Theatre
The Shakespeare Theatre, a landmark theatre in Connecticut, has become the talk of the town after a proposal was made to tear it down and replace it with an amphitheater and black box theatre.
According to the CT Post, there are mixed feelings about the threatre. Some see it as a landmark of local culture, hoping that the old flame will one day be re-ignited. Others feel that it has become a bit of an antique, having its glory days come and go while the building dilapidates.
According to Lou DeCilio, the local Republican Town Committee chairmen, tearing down and replacing the existing theatre will save tax payers money while restoring the town's culture.
Other propasals have included building a hotel on the campus that would provide revenue for the theatre and taking government loans to get the theatre back on its feet.
