THE CHOSEN to Run 1/27-2/14 at Playhouse on Park

By:

Playhouse on Park's first Mainstage Series show of 2016 is the award-winning production The Chosen, adapted by Chaim Potok and Aaron Posner. Opening night is January 29.

Potok's award-winning novel is the story of two boys, two fathers and two very different Jewish communities-"five blocks and a world apart"-in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in the 1940s. Set against the backdrop of WWII, the revelation of the Holocaust, and the desperate struggle of Zionism, The Chosen remains not essentially political or religious but deeply human. Themes of friendship, family, and life choices run throughout this beautiful story that chronicles a path to understanding and reconciliation.

Featured in this production are: DAVID GAUTSCHY (Off Broadway: Signature Theater Company/KOTA: A LITTLE PRINCESS. Regional: Shakespeare on the Sound, Denver Center Theater Company) as Reuven Malter, JOSHUA WHITSON (Off-Broadway: TARTUFFE (Valere). AS YOU LIKE IT (Silvius)) as Danny Saunders, DAMIAN BUZZERIO (Playhouse on Park: PROOF (Robert), CABARET (Herr Schultz). OTHER REGIONAL: Florida Studio Theatre, Elm Shakespeare, Shakespeare Theatre of NJ) as Reb Saunders, DAN SHOR (Theatre: Pittsburgh Public, Guthrie, Old Globe, Film: Tron: The Next Day, Tron, Red Rock West, Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure) as David Malter, and JORDAN WOLFE (New York/Off-Broadway: New York Classical Theatre: RICHARD III, LOVE'S LABORS LOST. Prospect Theatre Company: THE ALCHEMISTS) as Young Reuven Malter.

The Playhouse's very own Director of Education, DAWN LOVELAND (Playhouse on Park directing credits: PROOF, OLEANNA, THE TRESTLE AT POPE LICK CREEK, RED LIGHT WINTER, THEATRE UNCUT. Playhouse on Park Staged Readings: DREAM HOUSE, THE CLOWNS), returns to direct The Chosen.
