Playhouse on Park is pleased to announce that we are once again offering classes in our satellite location, Solomon Schechter Day School in West Hartford. Spring classes begin on March 22. Classes are open to both Solomon Schechter students and students who attend other schools. The Creative Kids class is for students in Grades K-2, and the Young Actor class is for students in Grades 3-5. These classes focus on developing strong acting technique at an age-appropriate level. Students learn to use their voices and bodies onstage, connect to an emotion, create characters and work as an ensemble. We create a comfortable and professional environment that allows students to explore their creativity in a controlled setting. Classes conclude with a final showcase. Returning to instruct these fabulous classes is Teaching Artist Kathleen Doherty. Actors On Stage is open to students in Grades 6-8. Students will focus on using their voices and bodies to portray characters onstage. This class will include acting and storytelling activities, improvisation exercises, monologue and scene work, movement for actors, and voice for actors. Though the emphasis of the class will be on developing skills and not on a final performance, family and friends are invited to the last class to see students present monologues and scenes. Teaching Artist Gino Costabile instructs this class.
