Square One Theatre Presents FREUD'S LAST SESSION, Now thru 11/16

The opening production of Square One Theatre's 24th Season is the "Lively, Provocative and Witty (New York Magazine) play Freud's Last Session by Mark St. Germain. Described as a humorous, insightful character study about psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud and professor/author C.S. Lewis, Freud's Last Session opens tonight, November 1 and continues on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Saturday, November 16 (2013) at Square One's home base, the Stratford Theatre, located at 2422 Main Street inStratford, Connecticut.

Freud's Last Session centers on the legendary psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud, who invites the young, rising academic star C. S. Lewis, who would later author "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "The Screwtape Letters" among others, to his home in London. Lewis, expecting to be called on the carpet for satirizing Freud in a recent book, soon realizes Freud has a much more significant agenda. On the day England enters World War II, Freud and Lewis clash on the existence of God, love, sex, and the meaning of life - only two weeks before Freud chooses to take his own. This is a profound and deeply touching play about two men who boldly addressed the greatest questions of all time. Internationally known in his lifetime, Freud's career caused much controversy, but his importance as a founding figure of Psychoanalysis is undeniable and lasting.

Post-performance "Talkbacks" are scheduled on Sundays November 3 and 10 with psychotherapist Orna Rawls, members of the cast, the director and members of the audience. The running time of Freud's Last Session is 85 minutes and is performed without an intermission.

The cast includes Square One award-winning veteran Al Kulcsar (Fairfield) last seen in Southern Comforts and Gabriel Morrow(Norwalk), a newcomer to the Square One Theatre stage. Morrow's regional and area theatre credits include Of Mice and Men, The Tempest, The Miracle Worker, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Sweet Bird of Youth among others.

Freud's Last Session is directed by Stratford's Tom Holehan.

Playwright Mark St. Germain's other plays include Camping With Henry and Tom (Outer Critics Circle Award and Lucille Lortel Award), Out Of Gas On Lover's Leap, Forgiving Typhoid Mary (Time Magazine's "Year's Ten Best"), Ears On A Beatle and The God Committee. His play, Becoming Dr. Ruth, recently opened Off-Broadway. His new musical, The Fabulous Lipitones, co-written with Mark Markus, was produced at Goodspeed Musicals' Norma Terris Theatre. His musical, Stand By Your Man, The Tammy Wynette Story was created for Nashville's Ryman Theater.

Working behind the scenes are Stratford's Kimberly Krol (Stage Manager), Judy Keegan (Assistant to the Director) and Don Henault (Sound), Milford's Cliff Fava (Lights) and Fairfield's Al Kulcsar (set).

All performances are on the stage of the Stratford Theatre, 2422 Main Street in Stratford, Connecticut, located off I-95 Exit 32 (northbound and southbound) in Stratford Center.
