By: BWW News Desk Nov. 01, 2013
The opening production of Square One Theatre's 24th Season is the "Lively, Provocative and Witty (New York Magazine) play Freud's Last Session by Mark St. Germain. Described as a humorous, insightful character study about psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud and professor/author C.S. Lewis, Freud's Last Session opens tonight, November 1 and continues on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through Saturday, November 16 (2013) at Square One's home base, the Stratford Theatre, located at 2422 Main Street inStratford, Connecticut.
Freud's Last Session centers on the legendary psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud, who invites the young, rising academic star C. S. Lewis, who would later author "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "The Screwtape Letters" among others, to his home in London. Lewis, expecting to be called on the carpet for satirizing Freud in a recent book, soon realizes Freud has a much more significant agenda. On the day England enters World War II, Freud and Lewis clash on the existence of God, love, sex, and the meaning of life - only two weeks before Freud chooses to take his own. This is a profound and deeply touching play about two men who boldly addressed the greatest questions of all time. Internationally known in his lifetime, Freud's career caused much controversy, but his importance as a founding figure of Psychoanalysis is undeniable and lasting.Saturday, November 2 at 8pm
