SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER Plays Town Players of Newtown

By:

Next on the boards at Town Players is SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER by Oliver Goldsmith.

Shy, unassuming Charles Marlow, on his way to meet potential fiancée Kate Hardcastle, is duped into thinking the Hardcastle estate is an inn - which works out well for romance, since Marlow is tongue-tied around upperclass women. He mistakes Kate for a servant, and she decides to play along. A second romance is carried out in secret between Marlow's best friend and Kate's best friend. Vying with them for the family inheritance is Tony Lumpkin, the spoiled and foolish son of Squire Hardcastle's second wife. Madness ensues on the way to a happy ending.

The cast includes Michael Cassidy (Woodbury), Linda Gilmore (Norwalk), David Hartington (White Plains, NY), Liesbet Higham (New Haven), Nick Kaye (Bethel), Linda Panovich-Sachs (Bridgeport), Rob Pawlikowski (Roxbury), Megan Poitras (Southbury), Tristan Speed (Bethel), and Ward Whipple (Bridgeport).

Director Ruth Anne Baumgartner returns to the Little Theatre for this 18th century comedy of manners.

Town Players' Little Theatre is located at 18 Orchard Hill Rd, Newtown CT. SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER runs July 8-24. Showtimes are 8 PM Fridays and Saturdays; 2 PM Sundays. Tickets are $20; $10 children 10 and under, payable by cash or check only at the door. Make your reservations by calling the box office at 203-270-9144.
