Get the best seats in the house to see a new season of classics by the Bolshoi Ballet in HD at The Ridgefield Playhouse

See the greatest classics restaged by today's most celebrated choreographers with the Bolshoi Ballet in HD - allowing you the best seats to this historic Russian icon! For the eighth consecutive year, the 2017-18 Bolshoi Ballet in HD season presents the greatest classics restaged by today's most celebrated choreographers for a cinema-exclusive experience featuring some of the finest dancers in the world. Three historical ballets recreated by Alexei Ratmansky - Le Corsaire on January 14, Romeo and Juliet on February 18 and The Flames of Paris on May 26 - will be shown on the big screen alongside John Neumeier's The Lady of the Camellias on February 4 and Jean-Christophe Maillot's riveting The Taming of the Shrew on November 25. Three timeless classics and audience-favorites will complete the season: Giselle on April 12, The Nutcracker on December 23 and Coppélia on June 10. The Ridgefield Playhouse offers free tickets to students 18 and under as a way for parents to introduce their children to the arts. Free tickets are also available for Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings Live in HD screenings of The Met Opera and National Theatre of London.

On Saturday, November 25 it's an encore screening at 7:30 pm of Shakespeare's famously chauvinistic comedy The Taming of the Shrew by the Bolshoi Ballet. It's a battle of wits between two equally feisty individuals: stormy individualist Katharina and smug bad boy Petruchio. With their signature bravura, the Bolshoi's incomparable dancers bring to hilarious life all of the fawning, preening, and hypocrisy that well-born Kate finds so tiresome-and that ultimately makes the rough-edged outsider Petruchio seem so appealing to her. Principals Ekaterina Krysanova and Vladislav Lantratov clash, challenge and eventually give themselves to one another in a wonderfully entertaining production that can only be seen at the Bolshoi! Acclaimed choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot brings out the wit, fast-paced athleticism and vibrancy from the Bolshoi Ballet dancers in Shakespeare's rowdy comedy.

Celebrate the holidays with an encore performance of Bolshoi Ballet in HD: The Nutcracker on Saturday, December 23 with screenings at 2pm and 6pm. As the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve, Marie's wooden nutcracker doll comes to life and transforms into a prince! Soon joined by her other toys that have also come to life, Marie and her prince embark on a dreamy unforgettable adventure. A holiday tradition for the whole family, The Nutcracker sweeps the Bolshoi stage for two hours of enchantment and magic. Along with Tchaikovsky's cherished score and some of the Bolshoi's greatest artists, The Nutcracker remains a treasure not to be missed!

The Bolshoi Ballet is a symbol of excellence in ballet - acquiring an almost mythical reputation. The traditions of the company go back to Tsarist Russia (1776). In the 20th century the company has polished its typical, almost athletic style and today boasts such dance stars as Svetlana Zakharova, Nina Kaptsova, Svetlana Lunkina, Maria Alexandrova, Ruslan Skvortsov, David Hallberg, Nikolai Tsiskaridze, and Mikhail Lobukin. Their virtuosity has captured the hearts of audiences throughout the worlds. The artistic director Sergei Filin successfully draws on the immense tradition of the company and transposes it into the context of the present day.
