Rick Reyes, founder and frontman of Connecticut's own Latino rock band, Cosmic Jibaros, celebrates his first ever solo recording, Novela Sin Tiempo, with a CD Release Party at Bridgeport's historic and newly renovated Bijou Theatre at 7:00pm on Saturday, October 19th. Click here for tickets.

Novela Sin Tiempo (Story Without Time) is an all acoustic collection of stand alone songs which work together to existentially address life's stories of struggle, while daring to dream and find the courage it takes to persevere while stepping into the unknown of everyday living.

Mixing a cinematic vibe with a superlative flair for blending various musical traditions, from classic American rock to salsa, merengue, latin jazz and reggae, Reyes breaks the confines of any single tradition, offering in its place a serving of diverse musical narrative from around the globe. In fact, only one track has English lyrics while the rest are Spanish, but all successfully transport the listener to the intended destination. It would be accurate to say this sound represents the unique talents emerging from the northeastern U.S. into the consciousness of the world music stage.

"Its a very Connecticut style," says Obanilu 'Oba' Ire Allende, master percussionist (Siembra Maestra, Miguel Zenon and Henry Cole Afrobeat Collective) who plays on the record, Novela Sin Tiempo fits the world music genre with ballads and Bomba (Afro-rican roots music) to rock and classical...and we do this with bass, percussion, cellos and violins. It's a fusion. It's a North American music with the Caribbean on the inside."

As Hispanic Heritage Month continues through the month of October this recording is a perfect celebration for observing the important cultural gifts of the Latino cultural past as it fuses with the evolving present through the vision of Mr. Reyes experience and message.

Ravi Shankar, the professor and poet in residence at CCSU, calls Reyes "a latter day Pablo Neruda." "His layered instrumentals," Shankar said, "are the true embodiment of world music - with a rich fusion of rock, funk, samba, jazz and Afrobeat, congas and drum and bass, cascading guitar...Reyes is dedicated to building community in Bridgeport and helping young writers, which on top of his intoxicating music makes him a hip cat worth listening to."

Novela Sin Tiempo was recorded and produced at Carriage House Studios in Stamford, CT by Rick Reyes and Grammy nominee engineer, Brendan Muldowney. It features Rich Zurkowsky, acoustic bass, backup vocals; Obanilu Ire Allende, percussion, vocals; Eddie Venegas, trombone, violin; Grammy Award Nominee Master cellist, Dave Eggar; Brendan Muldowney, guitar, piano; Marcos Torres, guitar.

Also, joining the recording sessions were Joseph Meo, soprano saxophone; Fernandito Ferrer, vocals; Darian Cunning, guitar (Cosmic Jibaros); Tony Senes, Backup Vocals (I Anbassa, Cosmic Jibaros).
