Registration Now Open For The Art Of Clowning Adult Master Class At Playhouse On Park

Learn from Broadway stars this summer at Playhouse on Park! Broadway actor and teaching artist Eric Robertson is lined up to teach The Art of Clowning Adult Master Class on Monday, July 16 from 6:30-8:30pm. Friends of the theater may remember Robertson from the Playhouse's production of A Chorus Line in 2016!

Eric Robertson the artist is the sum of very diverse parts. As a performer he's acted in film and TV, theatre, and musical theatre, on Broadway, all over the US and his native Canada. He's directed many productions around NYC, including the off-Broadway show "Gym Shorts: The Show," which he also wrote. He trained at the Barrow Group in NYC, where he was first introduced to the art of clowning. It was this course, and this philosophy, that transformed his acting more than anything else, and he is very excited to be able to share what he learned.

Through games, discussions and exercises, this class will help actors explore a physical space, learn to feel more comfortable in that space, and discover the magic they can achieve when they unlock the power of that space. Participants will discover their "inner clown", and really live in the moments before the response, where even the actor doesn't know what's going to happen, or even what they're going to say or do. Every scene, every line, every moment in any performance contains two elements: the stimulus, and the response. She jokes, he laughs. He pushes, he falls. But there is something that is even more potent, more exciting, more vital, than either of those elements. And that is the space BETWEEN them. It is a space that is too often ignored, sometimes because it's a very scary place. But that is EXACTLY WHERE THE CLOWN LIVES. That space of unlimited potential.

This class is one of three Summer Adult Master Classes offered by Playhouse on Park. Other classes include: Broadway Dance: Fosse, instructed by Stephanie Pope on July 9, and Contemporary Musical Theater Audition Technique, instructed by Michelle Pruiett (another former Chorus Line alum!) on July 23.

The fee is $30 for one class, and $10 to observe. Or, register for all three master classes for only $75! To register, visit the Education page at www.playhouseonpark.org, and download the registration form, or call 860-523-5900x10 for more information. Playhouse on Park is located at 244 Park Road, West Hartford, CT, 06119.
