The Hartt School, the comprehensive performing arts school of the University of Hartford, is pleased to present Grammy nominated violinist Regina Carter on Thursday evening, November 17, 2011, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium at the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Individual concert tickets are $35, with discounts for seniors, educators, University of Hartford alumni, students, and groups.

Carter will appear with her five person ensemble to perform tracks from her recently released, internationally acclaimed album of African roots music Reverse Thread. "There is an immense amount of amazing music coming from all around the world, much of which is barely accessible," emphasized Regina on her website. "Reverse Thread gave me the opportunity to explore and celebrate a tiny portion of music that moved me."

As a 2006 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, what is commonly known as the "genius grant," Carter was able to create the acclaimed album Reverse Thread. She has toured throughout the world repeatedly, been featured with several symphony orchestras, and performed with artists as diverse as Aretha Franklin, Lauryn Hill, Billy Joel, and Mary J. Blige. Carter continues to be one of the most versatile and imaginative artists of our time.

According to Time Magazine, "Regina Carter creates music that is wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent and, at times, breathtakingly daring...taking the listener into the future of jazz."

A special pre-concert dinner precedes the performance and begins at 6:00 PM in the University's 1877 Club. Patrons may purchase tickets to the performances and/or the pre-concert dinners. Dinner tickets are $35 each. To purchase tickets or to get additional information, please call the University of Hartford Box Office at 860.768.4228 or 800.274.8587.
