New London Maritime Presents The Enemy Within: Arnold Returns Home 9/11
Actors Gary Petagine and Sean Grady return to the Custom House Maritime Museum/New London Maritime Society on Sunday, September 11 at 1 PM to perform a new, original play based on an infamous incident in New London's past: the burning of New London. The Enemy Within: Arnold Returns Home takes us back 230 years to September 6, 1781. After committing treason against the American cause, Norwich native Benedict Arnold has been made a Brigadier General in the British army. With overwhelming Royal forces, Arnold has invaded Connecticut (his home state). He debates with a captured American Continental soldier as a massacre unfolds at nearby Fort Griswold and New London burns. Suitable for all-ages, there is only one performance scheduled. Space is limited and reservations are required.

Brigadier General Benedict Arnold is portrayed by Gary Petagine. A teacher for over 30 years, Gary has been a master teacher for the Living History Education Foundation for 8 years. He is a Colonial/Revolutionary War reenactor with the 5th NY and has portrayed Patrick Henry, Gen. Richard Montgomery, and Sam Adams. Gary co-founded A Living History: The Revolutionary War at Carmel High School and has been featured in Putnam-Westchester County's Journal News.
The captured American Continental soldier is portrayed by Sean Grady.A teacher for over ten years in Westchester County, Sean's "living history" approach to teaching has been highlighted in The New York Teacher Magazine and other regional publications. Sean has been a master teacher for the Living History Education Foundation for 8 years. He and Gary created Flight of the Dark Eagle - a course that allows teachers to walk in the footsteps of André and Arnold as their plot of treason unfolded throughout the Hudson Valley. A veteran of the stage, Sean has performed in over 50 theatrical productions across New York State.
