Long Wharf Theatre announces a full slate of summer acting classes for adults and children, beginning in June.
A class entitled "Nonlinear Works", an opportunity for adults to create an authentic performance style, will take place from June 12-July 31. Teens will get a taste of classic scene and monologue work in Long Wharf Theatre's "ReACT Now!" class, held from July 26-July 30. Kids have a chance to enjoy the reckless abandon of great storytelling in the "Off The Cuff Improvisation" class, running from August 2-6. Private acting lessons are also available.Director of Education Annie DiMartino uses what she describes as the "Three Faces Approach" to improve her students' acting technique, an approach which explores what an individual performer brings to a role, the role itself and the tactics one uses to achieve an acting objective. "Our unique approach towards acting gets you out of your head and into your body, which allows you to listen and take risks on stage," she said.LONG WHARF THEATRE (Gordon Edelstein, Artistic Director and Ray Cullom, Managing Director), entering its 46th season, is recognized as a leader in American theatre, producing fresh and imaginative revivals of classics and modern plays, rediscoveries of neglected works and a variety of world and American premieres. More than 30 Long Wharf productions have transferred virtually intact to Broadway or Off-Broadway, some of which include Durango by Julia Cho, the Pulitzer Prize-winning plays Wit by Margaret Edson, The Shadow Box by Michael Cristofer and The Gin Game by D.L. Coburn. The theatre is an incubator of new works, including last season's Have You Seen Us? by Athol Fugard. Long Wharf Theatre has received New York Drama Critics Awards, Obie Awards, the Margo Jefferson Award for Production of New Works, a Special Citation from the Outer Critics Circle and the Tony® Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre.
