Long Wharf Theatre And New Haven Symphony Orchestra Combine Box Offices

By:

Two of New Haven's premier arts organizations - Long Wharf Theatre (LWT) and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) - will combine box offices beginning August 1. This new box office enterprise, which will be called "Elm City Tickets," will be managed by Long Wharf Theatre and will be located at the Theatre on 222 Sargent Drive in New Haven.

Beginning August 1, patrons will be able to purchase tickets to either organization's events by calling the Long Wharf Theatre Box Office at (203) 787-4282 or travelling in person to the LWT Box Office. Tickets to LWT performances can be purchased online at longwharf.org and Symphony tickets can be purchased online at NewHavenSymphony.org. Additionally, ElmCityTickets.com, which will launch later this season, will offer a single online location to purchase tickets to both organizations.

Elm City Tickets is a service provided by Long Wharf Theatre, and backed by the secure cloud-based ticketing website Spektrix. The new initiative is a virtual ticket sales concierge, providing arts organizations of all sizes dedicated box office coverage. The Symphony is the first performing arts organization to become involved.

LWT Managing Director Joshua Borenstein says, "Necessity is the mother of invention and also partnerships. We are delighted to collaborate with the Symphony on this endeavor. Not only do we both value artistic excellence, but we both know the importance of outstanding customer service. By sharing this resource, I know that we will make each of our institutions stronger."

NHSO CEO Elaine Carroll says, "The Symphony's ticket sales have expanded by more than 30% in just the last couple of years, prompting us to create a new and innovative way to manage our growing audience. We hope that this new partnership will encourage our community to experiment with and experience the rich variety of arts performances available to us right here in this city."

Named for the Long Wharf port along New Haven Harbor, Long Wharf Theatre was built in a vacant warehouse space in a busy food terminal in 1965, with its Mainstage originally stocked with seats borrowed from a retired movie house. Under the watch of Arvin Brown and Edgar Rosenblum for over 30 years, Long Wharf Theatre established itself as an important force in the regional theatre movement. Under the current leadership of Managing Director Joshua Borenstein, Long Wharf Theatre continues to be a leader in American theatre, producing fresh and imaginative revivals of classics and modern plays, rediscoveries of neglected works and a variety of world and American premieres.

Now celebrating its 125th anniversary season, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra continues to fulfill its mission of increasing the impact and value of orchestral music for its audiences through high quality, affordable performances and educational programming. The NHSO presents more than 40 concerts annually throughout the region and reaches more than 18,000 students through its award-winning educational and community programming.
