Hole in the Wall Theater's ENRON Begins Today

By:

The Hole in the Wall Theater (HITW) in New Britain, CT will present ENRON, Lucy Prebble's play recounting the events of one of the most infamous scandals in financial history, as the sixth production of its 2014-2015 season. Performances run Fridays & Saturdays from today, July 17 - August 8, 2015 at HITW on 116 Main Street in New Britain, CT. Tickets are $20.00 (general admission) and $15.00 (students and seniors). They can be purchased at the door and online at www.hitw.org. The July 24th show will be our Pay-What-You-Can performance.

Hailed as a thrilling corporate Macbeth, Lucy Prebble's smash London hit, ENRON, is an explosive tale that follows the rise and fall of the ill-fated Texas energy giant as told through the lens of some of its most infamous players. Inspired by real-life events and using music, dance and video, ENRON explores one of the most infamous scandals in financial history, reviewing the tumultuous 1990s and casting a new light on the financial turmoil in which the world currently finds itself. With sharp dialogue, intense courtroom drama, dark humor, vaudevillian theatrics, and a trio of velociraptors, ENRON is more than a case study, it is a cautionary tale of greed, power, corporate sociopathy, human nature, and the dangers of blindly following "the smartest men in the room."

Director Emily Trudeau is passionate about this ambitious technical undertaking, which she calls "an extremely poignant character drama. The classic story of the rise and fall of a hubris filled anti-hero. " Perhaps most intriguing is the continued relevance of these events, nearly fifteen years after the fact. Trudeau states, "We're living the consequences of an era that thought bubbles would never burst and it's important to understand the mindset that led to that situation. As the adage goes, those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. It's a story of human nature. Of truth and deception. Of perception and reality. And those are themes that will always be relevant. Enron corporation wasn't special. They were just the ones that got caught." With velociraptors, light saber fights and a highly technical multimedia format, ENRON is a piece of spectacle theater that is a perfect fit for HITW, a company that prides itself on it's ability to produce challenging, innovative shows.

The HITW cast includes: Rebecca Meakin, Mary Roane, Ryan Thomas, Ryan Wantroba (all from New Britain), Johnson Flucker (Trumbull), Nathan Rumney (Manchester), Jim Byrne (South Windsor), Stephanie Chernoff (Simsbury), Steve Azzaro (Killingworth), Luca Gianelli, Myla Gianelli, Christina Gianelli (all from Middletown), Neve Stanziale (Cheshire), Paul Keuhn (Hamden), Doug McCarthy (Torrington), Charlie Williams (Windsor), Scott Hoffman (Newington) & Delaney Wilbur (Farmington),.
