Hartt School to Present 'Concerto Barroco', 'Dark Elegies' et al. in 2010-2011 Season

The fall Senior Dance Concert, featuring six graduating seniors who will present their own choreographic works plus solos choreographed by professional choreographers from around the nation, takes place October 29 and 30 at 2PM and 7:30PM in The Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation Theater at the Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford. Admission is $20, with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

Hartt's fall main stage concert, Hartt Dances, includes excerpts of "Concerto Barroco", a George Balanchine masterpiece, set to the music of J.S. Bach; the poignant full version of "Dark Elegies" by Anthony Tudor, set to the music of Gustav Mahler; Jose Limon's soulful "Mazurkas", to music of Frederic Chopin; the exuberant "2 Celebrations in 3 Parts" by Stephen Pier, with a powerful rhythmic score of Steve Martland; and a new work by Katie Stevenson Nollet. This concert includes not only the artistry of Hartt dancers, but also features live music for most pieces spanning an impressive range from classical to hard driving contemporary performed by Hartt's Performance 20/20 chamber ensemble. Performances are November 19 and 20 at 7:30PM, and November 21 at 3PM in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Admission is $20, with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

Full Force Dance Theatre, The Hartt School's professional dance company in-residence, performs February 10 through 12 in The Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Theater.

Hartt's annual Collage Concert features two acts filled with continuous music, dance, and theatre. Hartt's gift to the community, Collage takes place on February 18 and 19 at 7:30 PM in Lincoln Theater. Admission is free and open to the public, though tickets are required.

The spring Senior Dance Concert features six graduating seniors who will present their own choreographic works plus solos set on them by professional choreographers from around the nation, and takes place on March 11 and 12 at 2PM and 7:30PM. Performances are in The Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation Theater. Admission is $20, with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

Continuing their effort to introduce more of the best of dance past and present to the Hartford Community, the spring performance of Hartt Dances features choreography by living choreographers on the rise from around the nation. Performances are on April 22 and 23 at 7:30 PM, and April 24 at 3PM in Lincoln Theater. Admission is $20, with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.

In addition to Hartt sponsored performances, Dance Division students will represent The Hartt School at the American College Dance Festival Association, the nationwide festival of college dance departments, in March of 2011. Hartt dancers also will participate in the Ted Hershey Dance Marathon, the yearly dance marathon celebrating the Greater Hartford area dance community, also in March, 2011.

Hartt dancers also will be collaborating with NYC-based visual artist, Saya Woolfalk, in a groundbreaking installation work at RAW, Real Art Ways in Spring 2011.
