Goodspeed Musicals Presents Jim Henson's EMMET OTTER, 12/5-1/3

By:

Goodspeed Musicals, the only two time Tony Award winning theatre in the country, has announced the return of last year's hit musical production of Jim Henson's Emmet Otter. Emmet Otter will run December 5, 2009, through January 3, 2010, at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut.

In Emmet Otter, as Christmas approaches the world of Frogtown Hollow, Emmet Otter and his Ma can only dream of buying each other gifts. So when a Christmas Eve talent contest is announced, both secretly enter hoping to win the prize money. In a heartwarming twist on "The Gift of the Magi," Emmet and Ma risk all they have and end up with the greatest grand prize of all. Featuring a lovable mix of actors and puppet characters from The Jim Henson Company, and a toe-tapping score, it's a classic holiday musical for all ages.

The musical is based on the book "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas" by Russell and Lillian Hoban and the ground-breaking all-puppet HBO special of the same name produced and directed by Jim Henson and written by Jerry Juhl. This production is an extraordinary collaboration among Goodspeed Musicals, co-book writers Timothy A. McDonald of iTheatrics and Christopher
Gattelli, Paul Williams who contributed the music and lyrics, and The Jim Henson Company.

Justin Bohon, whose Broadway credits include playing Will Parker in Oklahoma!, directed by Trevor Nunn (Theater World and Fred Astaire Awards, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations), On The Town; 9 to 5, Les Misérables, All Shook Up, The Producers and Miss Saigon, will play Emmet Otter. Broadway veteran Kathy Fitzgerald, whose Broadway credits include playing Roz in 9 to 5 (OCC nomination), Shirley Markowitz in The Producers, Swinging on a Star (Drama Desk Nomination), and Damn Yankees, will play Ma Otter. Ms. Fitzgerald performed in the original cast of Swingin' on a Star at the Goodspeed Opera House. Connecticut native Meg Guzulescu, who recently delighted audiences in the Broadway hit Billy Elliot and appeared in Gypsy with Patti LuPone, will play Jane.

The stage version of Jim Henson's Emmet Otter is produced in association with The Jim Henson Company, with Chairman Brian Henson spearheading the project on the Company's behalf. The Jim Henson Company has been an established leader in family entertainment for over 50 years, known for such productions as "Fraggle Rock."

Ticket prices range from $42.50-$62.50, for performance schedule or to purchase tickets, click here.
