Milford Arts Council (the MAC) invites the public to enjoy a Retrospective Exhibit of Frieda Howling, former member of Milford Arts Council and artist, print maker, teacher, and writer. The MAC is located at 40 Railroad Avenue in downtown Milford CT. A wine and cheese reception will be free and open to the public on March 14th 5:30-7pm. The exhibit can be viewed Tuesdays-Fridays 12-5pm through April 5th.
Frieda Howling was born in Munich, Germany, and she came to the US in 1934, settling in New York as a young teen. She obtained her Fine Arts degree at Douglas College (now Rutgers University). As an artist, she had a profound passion for knowledge and discovery. She wrote a book titled, The Development of Contemporary Art. Howling was inspired by Abstract Expressionists before her, and her works include abstract oils, black and white lino prints, box constructions and assemblages.
Mim Mills, past President of Milford Arts Council and long-time supporter remembers Frieda, "She was a wonderful artist and an ardent supporter of the MAC at the time when the train station was first acquired by the city. She was a great friend, well-loved, and always ready to help with anything related to the arts. She often held gatherings at her home in Woodmont to raise money for the arts and foster our connections with each other. "
Howling's work reflects her life's journey - events, discoveries, and encounters. Her family is excited to honor her journey through this special exhibit at the MAC. Located in downtown Milford CT, the MAC is easily accessible by car, bus, train, foot, or boat.
