Castle Craig Players Speak Truth With THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

By:

Castle Craig Players Speak Truth With THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES ImageOf all the parts of a woman's body, none is quite as shrouded in mystery as the vagina. The very word is rarely spoken aloud; it is confined to hushed tones and furtive glances, a word to be vaguely embarrassed by. This will not be the case when that most private part finds itself thrust into the spotlight in THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, by Even Ensler, presented by the Castle Craig Players, February 9-17 at their intimate Meriden venue!

An award-winning whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who "liked to look at it."

Based on dozens of interviews Ensler conducted with women, the play addresses women's sexuality and the social stigma surrounding rape and abuse, creating a new conversation about and with women. THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES ran Off-Broadway for five years, and has since become one of the most highly produced plays around the globe.

“This show is as timely now – perhaps more so – as it was when Eve Ensler wrote it,” said director Pamela Amodio.  “THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES calls out for change, and we're adding our voices to that call.”

Made up of theatre favorites from all parts of the state, the cast includes Emma Czaplinski, Jennifer Del Sole, Rosemary Howard*, Doreen Lopez, Melanie Pendleton, Jenney Rivard, Leonora Rodriguez, Hilary Rolstone, Katie Scott, Shannon Sniffin, Madison Stanchick and Kathy Wade. The production is stage managed by Meg Ryan
