Cancer as serious business is the subject of Burzynski: The Movie at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, June 26

Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski, a pioneering medical doctor and Ph.D. biochemist whose diligent research was responsible for the discovery of the genetic mechanism to cure most human cancers, was involved in a 14-year legal battle against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Both Dr. Burzynski and his patients who benefited from his discovery persevered in order to obtain FDA-approved clinical trials of Antineoplastons, the gene-targeted cancer medicines he discovered in the 1970's. A documentary film Burzynski: The Movie, which chronicles the journey and provides insight into the world of pharmaceutical firms, the Food and Drug Administration and people struggling to find a cure for their cancer, will be screened at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m. as part of The Ridgefield Playhouse Film Society Documentary Film Series. The film's award-winning director, Eric Merola, and one of Dr. Burzynski's cancer survivors will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A hosted by television personalities Ira Joe Fisher and Morton Dean. This event is sponsored by Cohen and Wolf, P.C., HBGroup, The Ridgefield Press and Sony XDCAM HC.

While practicing medicine in Houston from 1977-1995, Dr. Burzynski produced and administered his discovery of Antineoplastons without FDA approval because Texas at the time did not require Texas physicians to adhere to Federal law. This law has since been changed. Dr. Burzynski's ability to successfully treat incurable cancer with such consistency has prompted numerous investigations by the Texas Medical Board, who relentlessly took him as high as the state supreme court in their failed attempt to halt his practices. Likewise, the Food and Drug Administration engaged in four Federal Grand Juries spanning more than 10 years of attempts to indict Dr. Burzynski, all of which did not find him at fault.

Michael Friedman, M.D., Associate Director, Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program, The National Cancer Institute wrote: "Antineoplastons...are well-defined pure chemical entities. The human brain tumor responses are real". When Antineoplastons are officially approved, it will mark the first time in American history a single scientist and not pharmaceutical companies hold the exclusive patent and distribution rights on a medical breakthrough. Antineoplastons are responsible for curing some of the most incurable forms of terminal cancer.

Participating in the film are Dr. Burzynski's various cancer survivors who chose Antineoplastons over surgery, chemotherapy or radiation. Despite full disclosure of medical records supporting their diagnosis and recovery and systematic FDA supervised clinical trial data comparing Antineoplastons to other available treatments, a more coherent picture regarding the true motivation of the United States government's relentless persecution of Dr. Burzynski's research is revealed in the documentary Burzynski: The Movie .

All general admission seats are $5.00 and are being sold on a first-come-first-serve basis by calling or visiting the box office at (203) 438-5795, or by ordering online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org.
