Bolshoi Ballet's LADY OF CAMELLIAS to Screen at The Ridgefield Playhouse, 12/6

By:

The Ridgefield Playhouse and AAA Northeast Live in HD Series present an encore screening of the Bolshoi Ballet's Lady of Camellias, John Neumeier's dramatic masterpiece, on Sunday, December 6, at 7:00 p.m. A young bourgeois, Armand Duval, falls madly in love with Marguerite Gautier, a gorgeous courtesan celebrated by the Parisian high society. Despite her infidelity, Armand will do all he can to win the beautiful woman's heart and convince her to leave her indulgent life. The Bolshoi breathes new life into John Neumeier's tragic masterpiece, inspired by Alexandre Dumas' novel and accompanied by Chopin's exquisite score. This production assumes a new emotional and dramatic texture that only the Bolshoi's dancers can deliver.

The story of Alexandre Dumas' 19th century novel Lady of the Camellias is well known, having been immortalized in opera -- La Traviata -- in ballet, with Ashton's Marguerite and Armand ( created for Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev) as well as on screen. Neumeier's ballet, created in 1979 for the Stuttgart Ballet, with Marcia Haydee as Marguerite is now in the repertoire of major ballet companies worldwide. In the Bolshoi's since 2014, it offers strong dramatic roles to the Russian company's dancers and has been met with incredible success.

The Bolshoi's magical production of THE NUTCRACKER will be screened on Wednesday, December 23 at 7:00 p.m. This beloved holiday classic will enchant the whole family with its fairytale setting and Tchaikovsky's timeless score. The Bolshoi's version of THE NUTCRACKER has a unique and beautiful sense of romance and philosophy, danced by the heroic Denis Rodkin as the courageous Prince and the magical Anna Nikulina as Marie. As with all of the performances in this series, enjoy dinner and a show by visiting Bernard's (20 West Lane · Ridgefield) on the day of the show for a great Prix Fixe Menu when you present your tickets. The AAA Northeast HD series is underwritten by Jeanne Cook, Anita and Nicholas Donofrio, Liz and Steven Goldstone, Sabina and Walter Slavin, with support from The Ridgefield Press and Whistle Stop Bakery.
