Autorino Center for the Arts Welcomes Daniel Salazar Jr.'s GUITAR UNDER THE STARS

For the first time, as part of the Autorino Center for the Arts On the Move season at the University of Saint Joseph, Daniel Salazar Jr., an internationally renowned Spanish guitarist, will perform his annual outdoor concert Guitar Under the Stars for all, for free. It was in 1993 when Salazar first launched his vision of a large-scale outdoor concert, which combines Salazar's bold and original compositions with an ensemble of international and orchestral musicians. Guitar Under the Stars is free and will begin at 6:30 p.m., September 9, 2017 with the Hartt Community Division Guitar Quartet and at 7:30 p.m. with the main program, on USJ's main Quad.

For over 20 years, Guitar Under the Stars has brought together local and International Artists to perform a spectacular evening of Spanish, Classical, Latin American and International Music. This year's program will highlight the fusion of World Music styles in a remarkable multicultural artistic collaboration. Salazar will be performing his original music and brilliant symphonic arrangements with an impressive group of musicians including;

Alfonso Cid-Flamenco singer from Seville, Spain

Lorena Garay-guitarist from Puerto Rico

Daniel Salazar, III-Flamenco-fusion guitarist

Gonzalo Cortes-from Chile, playing flute

Esteban Arrufat-from Puerto Rico specializing in Latin percussion

Eugenio Huanca- from Chile, playing Andean instruments

Abraham Sanchez- from Venezuela, playing keyboards.

This grand event also includes outstanding local talent comprised of top players from Connecticut's own Hartford Symphony Orchestra.

Also new this year, talented young musicians from The Hartt Community Division Guitar Quartet will present a pre-concert performance.

Extended Bio:

Daniel Salazar was born in El Paso, Texas to immigrant Mexican parents who instilled a deep love for music. He grew up surrounded by a close knit extended family, immersed in the cultural traditions of his Mexican and Spanish heritage within the bi-cultural environment of the United States border with Mexico. He received a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Texas, holds a Master of Music Degree from the prestigious Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, Connecticut, and also studied guitar in Spain. Salazar has performed in master classes with illustrious classical guitar maestros and considers Oscar Ghiglia, Christopher Parkening, Pepe Romero, Leo Brouwer and Manuel Barrueco as most influential. He is a long time resident of Hartford, Connecticut.

Praised internationally for his warm, virtuosic playing, his solo, chamber and orchestral performances have been enjoyed by audiences in over twelve countries. His quest to reach new audiences has lEd Salazar to explore and create a unique repertoire of original compositions that cross stylistic boundaries, combining the traditions of the Spanish classical guitar with other styles that influenced his musical development. In addition to his solo, chamber music and concerto performances, Salazar currently performs with The Daniel Salazar Ensemble, a group of international musicians in a program that has been described as "a spectacular fusion of Spanish classical guitar with Latin and World rhythms". He has produced and released three recordings on his own SGP label. The recordings sell internationally and are available through his website, iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon and other sites.
