Anika Chapin Joins Goodspeed Musicals as Artistic Associate

Goodspeed Musicals will welcome Anika Chapin to its staff beginning in January, 2018.
An accomplished dramaturg and literary manager specializing in musical theatre, Ms. Chapin returns to Goodspeed where she previously served as assistant to the director on The Terris Theater production of 13. As a dramaturg she has worked on several projects including the Broadway revival of Sunday in the Park With George.
As an assistant director she has worked on numerous productions including Hamilton (NY Stage and Film), Once on This Island (Papermill Playhouse), Broke-ology (Lincoln Center Theater), and Damn Yankees, On The Town, and Face the Music (City Center Encores!). In addition she served as assistant to the director on 13 (Broadway). Ms. Chapin also worked as producer of Encores! Unscripted, a discussion series about topics in theatre with WNYC and City Center.
As Goodspeed's Artistic Associate, Ms. Chapin will provide the organization with a presence in New York, attending workshops and readings as well as assisting the producing team in developing new work and working with new writers. Ms. Chapin most recently served as literary manager at Two River Theater, where she was in charge of finding and developing new work, and producing readings and workshops. She is also an adjunct professor at Pace University. Ms. Chapin sits on the Artistic Advisory Board of City Center Off-Center and the Board of the Woodshed Theatre Collective.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Michael Gennaro, Goodspeed Musicals is dedicated to the preservation, development and advancement of musical theatre and is the first theatre in the nation to receive two Tony Awards (for outstanding achievement). Goodspeed produces three musicals each season at The Goodspeed in East Haddam, Conn., and additional productions at The Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn., which was opened in 1984 for the development of new musicals. Goodspeed also maintains The Scherer Library of Musical Theatre and The Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre. Anika Chapin is a New York City-based dramaturg and writer. She was most recently the Literary Manager at Two River Theater, where she was in charge of finding and developing new work, producing readings and workshops, and serving as an artistic matchmaker between creative teams and new projects. She was also the producer ofEncores! Unscripted, a discussion series about topics in theater (a collaboration between WNYC and City Center Encores!) and is an adjunct professor at Pace University, teaching Script and Score Analysis in the Musical Theater program. For several years she covered nightlife events for the Nocturnalist Column at The New York Times, and contributed several articles for the Metro section, as well as for publications including Vulture, Playbill Magazine and Movieline. She is also the author of a popular online series of "Haiku Reviews". As a dramaturg she has worked on several projects including Sunday in the Park With George (Broadway), and as an assistant director she has worked on Hamilton (NY Stage and Film), Once on This Island (Papermill Playhouse) Broke-ology (Lincoln Center Theater), Damn Yankees, On The Town, and Face the Music, (City Center Encores!), among others. She was an assistant to the director on 13, both at Goodspeed Musicals and on Broadway. She toured Asia as a company manager on Cats for the Really Useful Group. She appeared as a cultural commentator on the CBS News specials '2016 WTF' and '2017: Unsubscribe.' She sits on the Artistic Advisory Board of City Center's Encores! Off-Center, and is a Grand Jury member for NYMF. She has an MFA from Columbia University and a BA from Vassar College.
