A Celebration Of Poetry Event Announced At The Windham Theatre Guild

Here in Windham : A Celebration of Poetry Wednesday , April 18 , 2018 , at 7 pm Featuring Doug Anderson , Alexandrina Sergio , Steve Straight , and Windham County high school poets AND remembering poet and editor Alexander " Sandy " Taylor Steve Straight is the au thor of the poetry collections The Deepest Breath , The Water Carrier ( published by Curbstone Press in 2002 ) , The Almanac , and Some Assembly Required . He directed , for many years , the Connecticut Poetry Circuit and the Seminar Series of the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival .

Alexandrina Sergio is the author of two poetry collections , My Daughter Is Drummer in the Rock ' n Roll Band and That's How The Light Gets In . A longtime supporter of Curbstone Press , she is Poet Laureate of Glastonbury , where she edits a monthly poetry column in the town newspaper and presents events featur ing local poets and musicians .

Doug Anderson grew up in Memphis and served as a combat medic in the Vietnam War . He has written about his Vietnam experiences in both poetry and nonfiction . His books include the poetry collections The Moon Reflected Fire ( 1994 ) , Blues for Unemployed Secret Police ( Curbstone Press , 2000 ) , and Horse Medicine and a memoir , Keep Your Head Down : Vietnam , the Sixties , and a Journey of Self - Discovery . His many awards include the Kate Tufts Discovery Award , a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship , and a Pushcart Prize . Alexander " Sandy " Taylor was the founder , in 1975 , and c o - director , with his wife , Judith Ayer Doyle , of Curbstone Press , a non - profit literary publishing house in Willimantic that focused on works expressing a commitment to social awa reness , human rights , and peace .

A teacher of English for over thirty years at E.O . Smith Hig h School and Eastern Connecticut State College ( now University ) and a translator of Danish literature , his own poetry has been published in English , Danish , Bulgarian , and Serbo - Croatian .
