The Cleveland Orchestra OLIVERIO Legacy Ascendant HAYDN Symphony No. 90 NIELSEN Symphony No. 3 ("Sinfonia espansiva") Carl Nielsen nicknamed his Third Symphony “Expansive,” and it is sprawling in ambition and scope — here he discovers his mature voice in a ravishing love letter to his Danish homeland, filled with both seductive mystery and heartening warmth. The concert opens with principal timpani Paul Yancich as soloist in James Oliverio’s new Timpani Concerto, which was commissioned for him by The Cleveland Orchestra.
