MorrisonDance Celebrates 15th Season, 5/4, at PlayhouseSquare

By:

On Saturday, May 4th at 7 pm at PlayhouseSquare's Ohio Theatre, one of Cleveland's very own dance companies will share a selection of favorites from over 50 original pieces of choreography.

The show will include Morrison's "Tray Magnifique," an imaginative tribute to the service industry where dancers convert trays into mirrors, dragonflies, limousines and drum kits; "Radke's Melancholy Chromosomes," provides an ethereal interpretation of the captivating imagery from the mind of internationally recognized artist Scott Radke; "Union" is a kaleidoscopic duet; and "Inundation," is a colorful and vibrant romp choreographed by former company member Maree ReMalia (Pittsburgh, PA).

The evening will also premiere a collaborative piece by the company of dancers exploring the quirks and rhythms of neighborhoods with music by the multilayered Trepanning Trio. Several other short dances will take you all over the map with themes of Greek mythology, human intertwining, and humorous introspection.

The program will come to life bathed in the magical lighting of Trad A Burns and danced by performers who represent a diverse background of movement training including modern, ballet, jazz, capoeira, physical theater, and yoga. Performers are Taliesin Reid Haugh, Kevin D. Marr II, Carli Taylor Miluk, Sarah Morrison, Bethany Nesta, and Kalindi Stockton.
MorrisonDance has been featured regularly at the Cleveland Public Theatre, Ingenuity Cleveland, and throughout the Midwest in their annual summer series "The City is Our Playground". The contemporary dance company has also been selected for multiple appearances in the DanceNow/NYC series at the Joyce SoHo (NY) and Joe's Pub at Public Theater (NY).

Director and choreographer, Sarah Morrison, is a 2009 recipient of the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award. She was brought to Cleveland from her hometown of Atlanta, GA as a student in 1992 when she was awarded a Creative Achievement Award Scholarship for her choreography from Case Western Reserve University. Her dances have been called "zany" and "endearing" by Plain Dealer critic Donald Rosenberg, and her company delivers "unique moving art" according to Tom Mulready of Cool Cleveland.

MorrisonDance's 15th anniversary season performance is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.

Tickets for the May 4tt MORRISONDANCE concert at the Ohio Theatre for $15-$20 are on sale at The PlayhouseSquare Ticket Office; playhousesquare.org; or 216-241-6000.
