The critically acclaimed seductive comedy Venus in Fur will take Cleveland Play House's (CPH) stage from Nov. 1st through Nov. 24th in the Second Stage at PlayhouseSquare. Hailed by The New York Times as "seriously smart and very funny," Venus in Fur promises to have audiences looking at the audition process in a whole new light. This Tony-nominated play by celebrated playwright David Ives will be directed by CPH's newly appointed artistic director, Laura Kepley. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased by calling 216-241-6000 or by visiting www.clevelandplayhouse.com. This production of Venus in Fur is sponsored by Ambiance, The Store for Lovers.

This play-within-a-play is based on the nineteenth century erotic novella Venus in Furs by the "father" of masochism himself, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. In the opening scene, Playwright/Director Thomas has become disheartened by the lack of suitable actresses that have auditioned for the female lead in his play, when in walks Vanda: an out-of-work actress who is the epitome of "wrong." As it turns out, Vanda is quite a bit more than she appears and an electrifying game of cat and mouse ensues between the two. Brought to life by the witty writing of David Ives, these complex characters share a dark and suspense-packed audition unparalleled by any other.

The CPH production of Venus in Fur will take place in the Second Stage using a runway configuration for the first time and the audience will be immediately drawn in from the moment they set foot in the theatre. Director and CPH artistic director, Laura Kepley adds "Venus in Fur is a smart, funny, and provocative ride into the danger zone where love and lust, truth and deception, Man and Woman battle for supremacy."

This production contains strong language and sexual subject matter that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Venus in Fur will take place Nov. 1-24, 2013 in the Second Stage at PlayhouseSquare. Tickets range in price from $45-$72 each. Students under the age of 24 with a valid ID will be offered a special $15 ticket price. Tickets are just $25 for anyone under age 35, sponsored by Scene Magazine.
