About the Position:



The Shed’s Program Manager, Civic Programs plays a critical role in all aspects of the planning, management, execution, and evaluation of a robust yearly multidisciplinary artist-led programming calendar. This role reports to the Director of Civic Programs, and is a key member of a larger team tasked with supporting, commissioning, and amplifying NYC artists that reflect a diverse range of disciplines, backgrounds, identities, abilities, and sensibilities, at every level of their careers, developing programs and practices that engage NYC audiences, centering representation, inclusion, and equity in relevant and meaningful ways.



This position will manage several programs. Among them, primarily, The Shed’s Open Call, which aims to provide support, visibility, and recognition for NYC early-career artists across all forms and media to create and present new work in our unique space. Open Call will occupy various spaces at The Shed throughout the year, including one of the galleries, the theater, and the outdoor plaza, allowing for artistic diversity in commissioned works. Open Call artists working in the theater and plaza space will follow each other within a presentation period; the gallery space will be presented as a group exhibition. Also, they’ll manage The Shed’s Artist Fellowship supports artists’ creative and experimental processes, by providing robust 360-degree support including studio space in The Tisch Lab as well as unrestricted financial support, mentorship, peer-learning, and other specialized resources. Commissions stemming from youth engagement programs such as PowerPlay (Dis Obey) and Maze (FlexNYC). As well as exhibition-related interpretive and public programs, as well as other engagement, partnership and community-based programs.
