Emerging Playwrights Virtual Residency - The Strides Collective

The Strides Collective, a new Philadelphia-area theatre company, is seeking playwrights to participate in a Virtual Residency over the course of 3-5 months, beginning in March 2021. This is a remote play development opportunity that will be conducted via Zoom. The deadline for submissions is January 21st, 2021, with notifications of advancement sent out in early February. We will be selecting between three to five playwrights to participate in The Virtual Residency.



Our Mission: The Strides Collective produces and develops theatrical work by emerging playwrights that embraces the queer experience through authentic, modern, and innovative storytelling.



Submissions are open to emerging, queer-identifying playwrights in PA, NJ, DE, and NY. You must be 18+ to apply. This is an unpaid opportunity.



The Virtual Residency looks to serve finished (but not final) drafts through several monthly meetings, culminating in a public virtual presentation of the play. Selected playwrights will receive personalized dramaturgical feedback on drafts; an intimate community space of playwrights; the opportunity to hear their work read aloud by local actors; and the possibility of further development beyond the Residency’s timeline with The Strides Collective.



Script Criteria: Scripts should be full-length plays of at least 50 pages. Plays submitted should not have had a full production; workshops and other readings are okay. Plays should call for no more than 7 actors (doubling of parts is fine). Plays must be aligned with The Strides Collective mission.



To Apply: Please submit separate PDFs of a 20 page selection of your full script, the full draft of the same script, and a short Artistic Statement about yourself and your play to thestridescollective@gmail.com
