The Department of Theatre and Dance at Northern Kentucky University is performing the musical TITANIC with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and book by Peter Stone

TITANIC is a contemporary classical musical that chronicles the events of the RMS Titanic's tragic maiden voyage. This sweeping musical realistically depicts the stories of the diverse passengers and crew that sailed aboard the largest floating object of its time, a ship billed as "unsinkable." Portraying actual figures who were essential to the ship's smooth and thrilling departure are Matt Bohnert (Harold Bride), Brad Frost (Frederick Barrett), Johnny Kyle Cook (Thomas Andrews), and Spenser Smith (J. Bruce Ismay).

TITANIC requires big, beauitful singing and full dramatic acting of its ensemble of 37 performers. Students Julie Wacksman, Kay Brown, Heather Roush, Tim Hein, and Derek Johnson play some of the essential roles that distinguish the strict class system on board this "ship of dreams."

Mark Hardy, director of NKU favorites such as A CHORUS LINE, THE WOMEN and TAMING OF THE SHREW, adds another accomplishment to his directing resume. Hardy knows firsthand the demands of this undertaking. "After having performed in this show as an actor on Broadway, it has been an enormous challenge - and a joy - to work on TITANIC from a director's perspective. I appreciate the score and the book so much more from this viewpoint; particularly in the way the score sets up character and drives the story. The score is really like an actor's subtext in this piece; in this way it's like the great scores of Rodgers and Hammerstein or Sondheim. I think it's very easy for the stories of the individual characters to get lost in the grandeur of the ship's story. My goal in casting and rehearsal has been to try to bring these personal stories to life."

Eloquently written and passionately performed, this moving production invites audiences into a moment of history that continues to fascinate and surprise. Don't miss this once in a lifetime musical opportunity!
